Before confirming, check the billing account and renewal date.
Before you cancel or change plans
Find the receipt or billing statement and identify the merchant that charged you. Then use that service or store account to manage the subscription. A subscription bought on the web generally will not appear in Apple or Google Play, and deleting or uninstalling an app is not a reliable way to cancel an app-store subscription.
- Sign in to the same account that made the purchase.
- Check the next billing date and confirm the cancellation or plan change in the billing account.
- If a subscription is missing, check receipts and any other relevant service or store accounts for the original purchase or a duplicate subscription.
Cancel or change a ChatGPT subscription
ChatGPT subscription purchased on the web
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Open the account menu and select Settings, then Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, select Cancel and follow the confirmation steps.
ChatGPT subscription billed by Apple or Google Play
- Apple: On the Apple device, open Settings, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, select ChatGPT, and cancel.
- Google Play: Sign in to the Google Play account used for the purchase, open Subscriptions, select ChatGPT, and cancel.
OpenAI says, “Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel your subscription.” If you delete your ChatGPT account, OpenAI says that cancels a subscription billed directly by ChatGPT; it does not cancel an Apple-billed subscription. Verify a Google Play subscription in Google Play.
Self-service ChatGPT Business subscription
A Business workspace owner can open Workspace settings > Billing > Manage plan > Cancel subscription. If you do not have workspace billing access, ask the workspace owner. These instructions cover personal subscriptions and self-service Business, not Enterprise or Edu.

OpenAI advises canceling at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next charge. After an ordinary cancellation, paid features remain available through the end of the current billing period. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not automatically refund an earlier charge. A refund request is separate, and the process depends on the purchase platform. See OpenAI’s cancellation instructions.
Downgrade or cancel a Gemini-related Google AI plan
Google manages paid Google AI plans associated with Gemini through Google One. The available plans and benefits can depend on the account and location, so use the options and benefit details shown in your account and confirmation screen.

Downgrade the plan
- Open Google One and select Manage membership.
- Choose Change membership plan.
- Under Downgrade options, choose an available plan and confirm the change.
If no downgrade option appears, Google’s help page says the current plan is the lowest plan.
Cancel from Gemini on a computer
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- Open Settings & help > Manage subscription. This opens Google One settings.
- Choose Cancel membership, then confirm with Cancel.
When a Google AI Pro plan ends, its Gemini app Pro features and other Google One benefits included with the plan end as well. Review the confirmation screen for the benefits that apply to your account. Google’s instructions are at Manage your Google AI plan from Gemini Apps.

Cancel a Claude Pro or Max subscription
Claude subscription purchased on the web or desktop
- Sign in to Claude in a browser, or open Claude Desktop.
- Open the initials or name menu and select Settings > Billing.
- Select Cancel and complete the confirmation steps.
Claude subscription purchased through an app store
Cancel it through the Apple or Google Play account used to subscribe, in that store’s subscription settings.
Anthropic says cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and recommends canceling at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid a charge for the next period. See Anthropic’s cancellation instructions.

If you were charged after trying to cancel
- Check whether you canceled in the account that actually billed you. Use the receipt to identify the merchant and account.
- Look for a cancellation confirmation and verify the subscription status and renewal date in that platform.
- If the charge is from a different platform or account, cancel there too; a cancellation in one account does not manage a separate subscription billed elsewhere.
- For a refund, follow the billing platform’s separate refund process. OpenAI explicitly notes that canceling does not automatically refund previous charges.
Menus, plan availability, refund rules, and consumer rights can vary by location, account type, and billing channel. If a charge remains unclear, contact the merchant shown on the receipt.
