To stop the next HBO Max/Max or Paramount+ renewal, cancel through the company that bills your subscription—not necessarily through the streaming app. First check the billing provider and next renewal date in your account, then cancel there and save the confirmation and end date. Changing a plan is not the same as canceling it.
Find out who bills your subscription
Open the streaming service’s subscription or account settings and look for the billing provider. If the account does not make it clear, check your payment statement or the account you have with your internet, mobile, TV, or app-store provider. The provider collecting payment controls the cancellation route.
Max says its subscription screen shows the billing party. Paramount+’s US terms distinguish website subscriptions, which are managed in the account, from app-store and other third-party subscriptions, which must be managed with those providers. Max’s cancellation instructions and Paramount+ US terms describe these routes; availability and interface labels can vary by location.
Cancel HBO Max or Max
If Max bills you directly
- Sign in to Max and open the subscription page, or open the app and select your profile, then Subscription. On a TV, the help page describes opening Settings, then Subscription.
- Check the billing provider shown at the top. If it says Max, choose Cancel Your Subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.
- Record the expiration date shown. Max says access continues until the end of the current billing period.
If another provider bills you
Cancel with the provider named on the subscription screen. Max lists Apple, Google Play, Samsung, and internet, mobile, or TV providers as possible billing routes. For the listed app-store and device routes, its help page gives these paths:

- Apple: device Settings → your account name → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Cancel Subscription.
- Google Play: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Cancel subscription.
- Samsung: Samsung Checkout → Purchase History → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Unsubscribe.
If a provider bills you through an internet, mobile, or TV plan, use its website or help center, or contact its support team. If you do not see a cancel option in Max, that can mean the billing provider—not Max—controls the subscription. Deleting the Max app does not cancel it. Check Max’s current cancellation instructions for the route that applies to your account.
Cancel Paramount+
Website subscription in the United States
For a Paramount+ subscription purchased on its website in the US, manage or cancel it from the Paramount+ Account page. The US terms say auto-renewing subscriptions must be canceled before the next renewal date to avoid that renewal. For a free trial or promotion that fully covers the subscription period, cancel before the covered period ends.

A direct subscription generally remains usable until cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Canceling generally does not refund fees already paid, subject to applicable legal exceptions. These terms are specific to the United States; check the terms and account instructions for your territory. Read the Paramount+ US terms.
App-store or partner subscription
If you subscribed through an app store, partner, or another service, use that provider’s account and cancellation instructions. The streaming account may not have a cancellation control for a subscription billed elsewhere.

Do not use account deletion as a substitute
Account deletion is different from ordinary cancellation. Paramount+’s US terms say deletion may end access immediately and may forfeit remaining gift-card credit. If recurring payments are handled through an app store, cancel them there first. Paramount+’s US terms explain these conditions.
Changing a plan is not canceling it
A plan change can leave the subscription active and due to renew. For a direct Paramount+ website subscription in the US, the terms say an upgrade starts when completed and unused days may be credited; a downgrade starts at the end of the current billing period. If an app store, partner, or other service bills you, that provider’s change rules apply.

After changing a plan, check the account for the active plan and next renewal date. If your goal is to stop future payments, complete a separate cancellation through the billing provider. See Paramount+’s US subscription terms for the direct-plan-change rules.

- Check the subscription status with the billing provider. For a direct Max subscription, its help page says a canceled account shows a resume option instead of a cancel option. If another provider bills you, check the status there.
- Compare the charge date with your cancellation and end date. A charge may relate to the current billing period rather than a new renewal. Continued access during paid time does not, by itself, mean renewal remains active.
- Look for a confirmation. Search email for a cancellation message and save it with the displayed end date. Apple and Google Play may send confirmation emails. Not receiving an email alone does not prove cancellation failed.
- Check for another account or billing route. Review each email address you may have used and look for separate subscriptions. Max identifies multiple accounts with active subscriptions as one possible reason for another charge.
- Check timing and the amount charged. Max says some providers require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period, but that deadline depends on the provider. A different amount can also reflect a changed plan, provider or country differences, taxes, a bundle, or a promotional period ending.
- Contact the company that billed the payment. If the subscription appears canceled but a renewal charge still arrives, ask the billing provider to review it. For direct Max billing, contact Max; for third-party billing, contact that provider.
