You can browse Steam Next Fest demos, add promising ones to your library without downloading them, and install only the demos you plan to play soon. The important catch is that a library entry does not guarantee future access: developers control whether demos remain available after an event. The October 2026 edition ended on October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific, so this guide explains how to find demos during a festival and what to do with them between editions.
Where can I find Steam Next Fest demos?
When an edition is active, start at Steam’s Next Fest event page. Its browsing tools let you explore by genre, theme, feature, and subcategory. The page layout can change, so treat those categories as ways to narrow a large selection, not as a fixed menu that will look identical every time.
Between festivals, Steam’s general demo hub is another place to discover demos. It is not limited to the current Next Fest, so it is useful when the event page is no longer presenting an active edition. Valve says Next Fest editions are held in February, June, and October; that cadence is not a confirmed schedule of exact dates for a future event.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAs of October 30, 2026, the October edition is over. Valve’s Steam Team announced that it ran through October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific. Valve described that edition as featuring “thousands of FREE demos.” That was an approximate description of the event, not a count of demos that remain downloadable now. After the festival, availability varies by game.

During an active edition, the event page is the festival-specific route: it brings together participating games and lets you browse by visible categories. The general demo hub is broader and remains useful outside those dates. Neither route should be treated as a guarantee that every listed demo can still be installed later. Check the individual game or demo page before planning a download.
How do I find and save a demo during Next Fest?
Use this sequence to browse broadly, save games that interest you, and avoid downloading everything before you have decided what to play.
- Open the Next Fest event page while an edition is active. Browse by the available genres, themes, features, or subcategories. Sections may be presented in a changing order; Valve says event sections initially appear mostly randomized and recommendations evolve later in the week. A position near the top of the page is not, by itself, a definitive ranking of the best demos.
- Choose a game and locate its demo control. On the Next Fest page, hover over a game to reveal the demo-install control. If you are browsing a regular game listing instead, the control may be on the full game’s store page or on a separate page for the demo. The developer’s store-page setup affects where it appears.
- Check the available action before deciding. If you want to download and play now, choose the install action shown for that demo. If you want to save it for later, use Add to Library when that option is available. Adding a demo does not install or download it.
- Wishlist the full game separately if you want release updates. On the event page, the star icon is used to wishlist the full game. A demo library entry and the full game’s wishlist entry serve different purposes: one is for managing the demo, while the other is a reminder about the commercial game’s release.
Steam’s interface and each game’s availability can vary. If an event-page control is not visible, open the game’s store listing and look for a demo action there; it may link to a separate demo listing. If no demo action is offered, do not assume the event-page listing still grants access.
It helps to make the decision in two passes. First, browse and identify games that sound worth trying; you do not need to commit to a download for each one you inspect. Second, decide which demo you can actually play soon and install that one. This separates discovery from downloading and keeps a long festival shortlist from turning into a large group of installations you may not open.
Can I add a demo to my Steam library without downloading it?
Yes. When Steam offers Add to Library, you can save an available demo without installing it, then download it later if you decide to play. This is useful when you find more interesting demos than you have time or storage to try immediately.
Add to Library and Install are separate actions. Installing downloads the demo so you can play it; adding it saves an uninstalled demo entry for later. Saving an entry does not reserve the demo permanently or override a developer’s decision to make it unavailable.
For a large shortlist, save demos first and install only those you expect to try soon. That is a practical way to prioritize your own downloads, not an automatic Steam queue or a special Next Fest feature. It also means you should not mistake an uninstalled library entry for a downloaded backup: if the demo is no longer offered when you return, the saved entry may not let you install or play it.

There are two different things you might be trying to “save.” Adding the demo to your library is about the demo itself and whether it is available to install. Wishlisting the full game is about following the commercial release and getting release updates. If both matter to you, do both while the relevant controls are available; neither action does the job of the other.
Can I play a Next Fest demo after the festival ends?
Sometimes, but not always. Some demos remain available after an edition ends; others may be withdrawn or otherwise become unavailable. Check the individual game or demo page rather than assuming that a festival listing means the demo will stay playable.
The October 2026 edition ended on October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific. A post-event page may still contain event-related text, so the dated end time is the reliable guide to whether that edition is over. Valve’s post-event list of the 50 most-played demos reports unique-player activity during that event; it is neither a complete list of demos that remain available nor proof that a particular entry can still be installed. It describes activity in that edition, not a promise of ongoing access.
If an unavailable demo is already installed, its library entry may show Uninstall instead of Play. That does not mean reinstalling it will restore access. Availability depends on the demo remaining offered by its developer. If you have not installed a demo, check its current game or demo page before assuming you can still download it after the event.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Think of post-event access as a per-game question, not a single rule for the entire festival. The event’s end date tells you when Next Fest finished; it does not establish the end date for every individual demo. Likewise, a demo that remains listed in Steam or in your library is not necessarily still playable. When a game matters to you, check the actual action Steam offers on its page and wishlist the full game separately if you want release updates.
What happened to a demo I added during Next Fest?
An uninstalled demo may disappear from your library automatically. Valve’s demo-client update says, “When a demo is uninstalled, it will automatically get removed from your library.” So an Add to Library entry is not a permanent bookmark if the demo is later uninstalled or removed under Steam’s demo handling.
If a demo is already installed but no longer playable, its primary action may be Uninstall. Removing it frees the installation, but Steam says uninstalling also removes the demo from your library. If you want to remove a demo entry from your account through a separate library action, Steam documents Right-click > Manage > Remove from account. These are not the same as wishlisting the full game: wishlist that separately if you want to track its release.

For a demo you care about, check the game’s page before deleting the installation and keep the full game on your wishlist if release updates matter to you. Neither step guarantees that the demo itself will remain available. If it has already disappeared or become unavailable, do not assume that the old entry can be used to recover it.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11How should I organize a long list of demos?
Keep the system simple: separate the demos you intend to try soon from those you have already played, and note which ones you would recommend to yourself later. For example, you might use labels such as Try soon, Played, and Favorites. These are suggested names, not Steam defaults.
Steam supports personal library collections, including dynamic collections, which can help group games and demos. Collection controls and exact creation steps can change, so use the current library interface rather than relying on a fixed click-by-click path. Do not expect Steam to create a dedicated Next Fest collection automatically.
- Save broadly, install selectively. Add available demos to the library when you want to defer the download. Install the ones you are ready to play, rather than treating every festival listing as a must-download.
- Sort by what you will do next. Put unplayed demos you want to try in a “Try soon” collection or another personal grouping. Move a demo to “Played” after you have given it a fair look, and keep only standout games in “Favorites.”
- Track the full game separately. Wishlist the full game if you want release updates. A demo collection organizes the playable entries; it is not a substitute for following the full game.
- Remove finished downloads when space matters. Uninstalling can reclaim storage, but Steam says it also removes the demo from your library. Check whether the demo is still offered before removing it if you may want to play again.
A collection is most useful when its label tells you what to do next. “Try soon” can be a short queue of installed or saved candidates; “Played” prevents you from repeatedly reconsidering demos you already tried; “Favorites” keeps your strongest picks visible. These are just organizing ideas, not special Next Fest functions. Keep the full-game wishlist distinct so a cleanup of demo installations does not also erase your reminder about the commercial release.
Should I install every demo immediately?
No. If you have a long list, adding available demos to your library and installing only a near-term shortlist keeps your downloads and installed library more manageable. It also avoids spending time and storage on demos you may never open.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
There is no universal storage estimate for a Next Fest demo in the information Valve provides here. Check each demo’s store-page requirements and available disk space before downloading. Do not assume that an uninstalled library entry will remain available indefinitely; the developer may withdraw the demo.
A useful way to choose a shortlist is to ask which demos you are likely to start soon, rather than trying to predict which ones you might want someday. Install those first, play them, then decide whether to keep or remove them before adding more. This is a personal workflow, not a Steam feature that automatically queues, ranks, or schedules the demos for you. If you are comparing several promising titles, the event page’s categories can help you narrow your browse, but Valve notes that sections and recommendations can shift during the week.

What should Steam Deck owners know about storage?
Consider removable storage only if you own a Steam Deck and need room to keep more demos installed. Valve documents support for UHS-I microSD cards, including SD, SDHC, and SDXC formats. That establishes a supported storage option, not a particular card recommendation, price, speed winner, or requirement for using Next Fest.
Extra storage can help hold installed demos, but it cannot preserve access if a developer withdraws a demo. The same availability caveat applies whether a game is installed internally or on a removable card. For a Deck owner who is simply browsing or saving uninstalled demos, buying storage is not a prerequisite; it is relevant only when installation space is the limiting factor.
How do the Next Fest page, demo hub, library, and wishlist differ?
Each serves a distinct stage of finding and following a game:
- Next Fest event page: Festival-focused browsing during an edition, with ways to filter demos and wishlist full games.
- Steam demo hub: A general discovery option outside the festival dates.
- Demo library entry: A way to manage or install an available demo; it is not a promise of permanent playability.
- Full-game wishlist entry: A way to follow the upcoming commercial game and receive release updates; it does not keep the demo available.
The choice between Install and Add to Library is also practical: install when you intend to play now; add to the library when you want to defer a download and Steam offers that option. Neither action makes a withdrawn demo playable. Similarly, uninstalling a finished demo and removing an item from your account are different library actions; Steam’s documented right-click management route is a separate option from uninstalling.
For discovery, begin with the event page when a festival is active and use the general demo hub at other times. For downloading, install a demo you can access and intend to play. For longer-term tracking, wishlist the full game rather than relying on the demo entry alone. This keeps the jobs clear: discover, decide, install, organize, and follow the release as separate steps.

When is the next Steam Next Fest?
Valve states that Next Fest editions are held in February, June, and October, but that cadence does not establish the exact dates of the next edition. Check Steam’s event information for a dated announcement rather than relying on a predicted schedule.

No. Valve’s Steam Team said the October 2026 edition ran through October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific. As of October 30, 2026, that edition has ended. Some demos may remain available individually, but the festival itself is over.

Why does a Steam Next Fest demo page still say the event is live?
Some event pages can retain live-event wording after the festival has ended. For the October 2026 edition, Valve’s dated announcement gives the end time as October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific.
Where is the Install Demo button?
On the Next Fest event page, hover over a game to reveal its demo-install control. On a regular store listing, the action may appear on the full game’s page or on a separate demo page, depending on the developer’s setup. Check that the demo is still available before trying to install it.
Can I add a Steam demo to my library without downloading it?
Yes, when Steam offers Add to Library. It saves an available demo entry without installing the download. You can install later if the demo is still offered, but the library entry does not guarantee permanent access.

Can I play Steam Next Fest demos after the festival?
Sometimes. Some demos stay available and others are withdrawn. Check the individual game or demo page; the end of the event does not establish availability for every title.
What happened to a demo I added to my Steam library?
Steam says an uninstalled demo is automatically removed from the library when it is uninstalled. If an installed demo is no longer available, its primary action may show Uninstall instead of Play. Wishlisting the full game separately is a better way to track its release, though it does not preserve demo access.
Does Steam’s most-played demo list show every demo I can still download?
No. Valve’s October 2026 post-event list covers the 50 most-played demos by unique-player activity for that event. It is not an inventory of all demos or a current-availability check.
How do I keep track of the demos I liked?
Use personal Steam library collections to group demos by what you plan to do next—for example, Try soon, Played, or Favorites. Those are suggested labels, not Steam defaults. Wishlist the associated full game separately if you want release updates.
Should I uninstall a demo after playing it?
If you need storage, uninstalling can free the installation, but Steam says uninstalling also removes the demo from your library. Check whether the demo is still offered before uninstalling if you may want to play it again; keeping an installation does not guarantee future access if a developer withdraws it.
Do I need a microSD card to play Next Fest demos on Steam Deck?
No. A card is only an optional storage choice if you need more space for installed demos. Valve documents Steam Deck support for UHS-I microSD in SD, SDHC, and SDXC formats, but does not establish a particular model, price, or performance winner.
