To move viewers from a YouTube Short to a live stream, attach the stream’s relevant destination with the Short’s clickable Related Video link. Don’t rely on a URL in the Short’s description or comments: those links are not clickable. If your stream is already live in vertical format, viewers using the YouTube app can also pause a Short and tap Live to enter the vertical live feed. Scheduled streams do not appear in that feed, so promote them ahead of time through supported channel surfaces.
Choose the right route from Short to stream
The best route depends on whether the broadcast is happening now or is scheduled for later. A Short can point viewers to related video content, while the vertical live feed offers another discovery path for an already-live vertical stream in the YouTube app.

YouTube documents that Related Video is clickable, but that does not guarantee every creator can attach every live URL or that the link will produce a particular number of viewers. Check the destination shown in YouTube Studio before publishing.

1. Make the Short a genuine preview
Use a compelling moment, recurring segment, or clear sample of what viewers will find in the stream. Tell viewers plainly what to watch next and, for a scheduled broadcast, when it starts. This is editorial guidance, not a platform requirement or a promise of conversion.

2. Add the Related Video
In YouTube Studio, select the Short and use its Related Video setting to attach the appropriate destination. Confirm that the selected video is the one you intend viewers to open. If the exact live event is not available as a selectable destination, don’t imply that the Short contains a direct clickable link to it; use a supported channel surface to guide viewers instead.
3. Give scheduled streams an advance path
For an upcoming broadcast, share its event link through surfaces where links are supported and make the event easy to find from your channel. YouTube recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours before going live. It also recommends using a teaser or trailer and a channel Live Section.

4. Use the live-feed route only when the stream is already live
YouTube describes a viewer path in the app: pause a Short, then tap Live to access the vertical live feed. This is an additional discovery route for an ongoing vertical stream, not a way to surface a scheduled event. Keep in mind that this path is specifically documented for the YouTube app and vertical live viewing.
5. Reuse highlights and the public archive
After the broadcast, YouTube recommends keeping public archives available to help future reach. Some mobile livestreams can also produce Short highlights if they meet the documented conditions: the stream is 10 minutes to 12 hours long, vertical, streamed through the YouTube mobile app, and has chat enabled. Screencasts and Made for Kids streams are among the exclusions. Check YouTube’s current eligibility details before planning around highlights.

Know which links viewers can tap
- Short descriptions and comments: URLs are not clickable, so don’t make a pasted URL there the primary route to your stream.
- Related Video: YouTube identifies this Short link as clickable.
- Channel profile: Profile links are clickable; YouTube allows up to 14 links on the channel page.
- Live chat: URLs are clickable for horizontal live streams, but not when viewers watch in the mobile app’s vertical live feed. Don’t depend on a chat URL as the main route for vertical-feed viewers.
Plan differently for scheduled and ongoing broadcasts
Scheduled event
A scheduled stream gives you a destination to promote in advance, but it is not listed in the vertical live feed. Build the route before broadcast day: share the event link at least 48 hours ahead, make it findable from your channel, and use a teaser or trailer where appropriate. A Short can introduce the event and point to relevant content with Related Video, but don’t tell viewers that the scheduled event will appear in the live feed.
Stream that is already live
An ongoing vertical broadcast can benefit from the app’s Short-to-Live entry path: pause a Short and tap Live to browse the vertical live feed. This is discovery, not a guaranteed handoff to your specific stream. A Related Video link can provide a separate clickable route when the destination is selectable.

Measure the route on your own channel
There is no conversion benchmark established here for how many Shorts viewers enter a 24/7 stream. Review YouTube Analytics and Studio for your own channel’s results, and distinguish observed traffic from a forecast. Compare Shorts or promotion periods with the stream’s traffic sources, and avoid attributing a change to one link without considering timing, content, and other promotion.
Keep a 24/7 stream operationally and legally sound
YouTube’s documented streaming options include mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. The platform recommends testing the stream and monitoring audio and video quality; it describes professional-grade hardware encoders as a recommendation for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for continuous streaming.

The cited YouTube setup and settings guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime or provide a guaranteed always-on recipe. If you operate a continuous broadcast, test the full chain, monitor it, and plan how you will recover if it stops.
