One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYou can usually block websites from your router’s parental controls, URL filter, or “Block Sites” settings. The exact menu and what you can block depend on your router model and firmware. Sign in to its app or web interface, find the filtering controls, add the site in the format the interface accepts, and save the rule.
Before you start
- Find the router’s exact model and check its manufacturer support page. Controls and menu paths vary by model and firmware.
- Use a phone or computer connected to the network, then sign in to the router’s management app or web interface.
- Decide whether you need to block a site for the whole network or only particular devices. Per-device website rules are not available on every router.
Find your router’s website-blocking controls
Look for settings named Parental Controls, URL Filter, Web & Apps Filters, or Block Sites. If you cannot find them, search the support documentation for your exact router model and hardware or firmware version.
NETGEAR
On some NETGEAR routers, sign in to the web interface and go to ADVANCED > Security > Block Sites. NETGEAR notes that some models use a different route, such as Settings > Content Filtering > Block Sites. Its instructions cover adding internet-site or keyword entries, and allow blocking to be always active or tied to schedule settings. The article was last updated July 7, 2025. ASUS
ASUS documents URL filtering under Firewall on supported routers, as well as web and app filters in parental controls on selected models. Its URL-filter instructions describe entering URLs in a list. ASUS states that this URL filter does not block a website for one specific device while allowing it on others. See ASUS’s URL Filter guide and its parental controls guide.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
TP-Link
TP-Link documents website blocking within parental controls. The available setup depends on the router or Deco product and how you manage it; consult the instructions for your exact product. Start with TP-Link’s Wi-Fi router parental-control guide or its Deco and router HomeShield setup guide.
Add and apply a website-blocking rule
- Open the router’s parental-control, URL-filter, or Block Sites page in its app or web interface.
- Select the option to add a blocked site or filter entry.
- Enter the domain, URL, keyword, or category in the form the router requests. These formats are not interchangeable: follow the interface’s own instructions rather than assuming a full web address will work.
- Choose the schedule if the router offers one. NETGEAR documents both always-on blocking and scheduled blocking; check your model’s instructions for its options.
- Save or apply the rule. Then try to open the site from a device affected by the rule to check the result.
What router website blocking can—and cannot—do
Rules may apply to the whole network
Do not assume a website rule can target one device. ASUS explicitly says its documented URL filter cannot block a site for a single device while exempting others. Other manufacturers and models may offer different controls, so verify device targeting in the exact model’s documentation.

Filtering methods differ
A router may accept domains, full URLs, keywords, or website categories. The available method determines how specific a rule can be; use the format shown in your router’s own settings.
Schedules and advanced features vary
Scheduling is documented for NETGEAR’s Block Sites feature, but that does not establish that every router supports it. TP-Link’s HomeShield documentation describes advanced parental-control features; it does not establish whether a specific blocking feature on a specific model requires a paid service. Check the exact product documentation and account or service terms.

If the rule does not work
- Confirm that you saved or applied the rule and entered the site in the format the router requires.
- Check that the device is connected through the router whose controls you changed.
- Look up the exact model and firmware version in the manufacturer’s support pages; another model’s menu path or feature list may not apply.
- Check whether the rule is scheduled rather than always active, if your router offers scheduling.
Manufacturer support pages do not provide one universal troubleshooting procedure for every router, so the exact model’s documentation is the best next reference.

If your current router lacks the filtering you need, compare routers with parental controls and website filtering. Before choosing one, verify the exact model’s documentation for the filtering method, device targeting, schedule support, app or web setup, firmware eligibility, and any account or advanced-service requirement. These capabilities can differ even within a manufacturer’s product range.
