There is no reliable universal tower build: the right setup depends on the route, enemy mix, and whether you are playing Campaign, Heroic, or Iron.
Start with the exact stage and challenge variant
Before changing your strategy, note the stage name, mode (Campaign, Heroic, or Iron), difficulty, platform, and game build. The official Kingdom Rush Alliance Strategy Guide lists walkthroughs by stage and challenge type, so a solution for one version of a level may not fit another.
If you are looking up advice, match all of those details as closely as possible. A wave-by-wave build for a different mode or version can send you in the wrong direction.
Find out what is defeating your defense
Use Enemy Info during the level rather than relying on a general description or assuming an enemy behaves as it did in an earlier game. Ironhide Support says Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance has no Encyclopedia in the main menu. To inspect an enemy, tap it during play, then tap its portrait at the bottom of the screen to open Enemy Info (Ironhide Support instructions, modified July 25, 2024).

Use the traits shown in your version to identify the problem: for example, whether the enemy is slipping past a choke point, overwhelming a defense, or demanding a different type of response. Build around what the level is actually sending, not a tower combination copied from an unrelated stage.
Build for the lanes, then specialize
The official game page describes a roster of 18 towers with special skills, including Paladins, Archers, Mages, Necromancers, and Demon Pits (Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance). That range gives you options, but the official material does not establish one combination as best for every hard level.

- Cover the route first. Prioritize positions that affect a choke point or a stretch where enemies remain in range. A powerful tower that cannot reach the lane causing the leak will not solve it.
- Match tower roles to the threats. Use the enemy information and the wave that breaks your defense to decide whether you need more damage, delay, or coverage across another route.
- Invest where the failure happens. If enemies consistently escape at one point, adjust the defense serving that route before spreading upgrades across the map without a clear reason.
- Check skills as well as tower placement. A different skill choice may address the problem more directly than adding another tower elsewhere.
Give both heroes jobs
Alliance is designed for controlling two heroes at once, with an additional spell ability from the second hero. Ironhide said the two-hero system opens up new strategic possibilities and that heroes can suit different tasks (developer Q&A, April 16, 2024). Treat the pair as active parts of your defense, not units to leave idle in one spot.
- Assign one hero to the hardest pressure point. Use that hero to help hold a lane or deal with a troublesome enemy.
- Keep the other flexible. Position the second hero to cover another threat or move to a leak before it reaches the exit.
- Choose by task coverage. Compare what each hero can do for the stage rather than assuming one pairing is always strongest.
- Use the second hero’s spell deliberately. Time it for the threat it can answer instead of treating it as an automatic extra attack.
Change one thing after a failed attempt
A failed run is most useful when you can identify where the defense stopped working. Note the wave or enemy that caused the leak, then make one change for the next attempt. You might reposition a hero, shift an investment to the failing route, or alter a tower skill. Changing one factor at a time makes it easier to see whether the adjustment helped.

- Identify the wave and lane where enemies get through.
- Check Enemy Info for the relevant enemies and review the towers covering that route.
- Choose one adjustment that responds to the observed failure.
- Replay and watch the same point. If the leak remains, make the next adjustment based on what happened.
Use walkthroughs carefully when a level still will not clear
Open the official Strategy Guide and find the entry for the same stage and variant. A Campaign walkthrough is not automatically a solution for Heroic or Iron, because those challenges have separate entries.
Also check whether advice matches your platform and build. In a March 12, 2026 announcement for the Dragon Wars update, Ironhide described changes to tower costs and damage, enemy stats, and stage difficulty. That announcement identified build 7.00.60 for Steam and 7.00.62 for iOS, Android, macOS, and Apple Arcade; those are update-specific build numbers, not a claim about the current build or every campaign (Dragon Wars Balance Improvements).

If you want help with one particular level, include its name, Campaign/Heroic/Iron variant, difficulty, platform, and game build. Those details are needed to give advice that fits the problem rather than guessing at a wave-by-wave solution.
