Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWindows dial-up connection entries are stored in a RAS phone-book file, usually named Rasphone.pbk. To move them, back up the active phone book on the original PC, then copy it to the matching per-user or all-users phone-book location on the destination PC. Check the entries afterward and be prepared to enter account credentials again.
What the dial-up backup contains
A RAS phone book is a text file containing connection entries. Each entry holds information needed to establish a RAS connection, such as a phone number, COM port, or modem settings. Microsoft describes the phone-book entries as containing the information needed to establish a RAS connection: RAS Phone Books.
The file to look for is Rasphone.pbk. The right location depends on whether the connection is for one user or all users, so identify the active phone book rather than assuming every Windows installation uses the same folder.
Back up and transfer the phone book
- Find the active phone book on the source PC. Locate the
Rasphone.pbkfile Windows uses for the dial-up entries you want to move. Preserve its scope: a per-user phone book should be restored for the corresponding user, while an all-users phone book should be restored in the all-users location. - Make a separate backup copy. Copy the PBK file to a safe location, such as another folder or an optional USB drive. Do not overwrite your only copy of the file.
- Prepare the destination PC. If it already has a phone book, save a backup of that file before replacing or merging anything. Microsoft’s older file-copy procedure describes replacing the destination phone book; keep the existing version so you can restore it if needed. See Microsoft’s dial-up connection copy procedure.
- Copy the PBK file to the corresponding location. For an explicit all-users phone-book path, Microsoft documents the subfolder
MicrosoftNetworkConnectionsPbkbeneath the all-users application-data path. The location for a per-user phone book is not established by that all-users path; use the active location for the intended user rather than placing the file there by assumption. See Microsoft’s RAS phone-book path documentation. - Open the dial-up connections and verify the entry. Confirm that the expected connection appears, then check its phone number and settings before connecting. The older Microsoft procedure includes restarting Windows, but that dated step should not be treated as a universal requirement on current Windows versions.
Check credentials and connection profiles
A copied phone book should not be assumed to transfer usable credentials. Microsoft documents that entry credentials are associated with a user’s successful connection or credentials set through RAS functions. Try the connection and enter the username and password again if Windows requests them; see Microsoft’s RAS credentials documentation.

This procedure covers standard RAS dial-up phone-book entries. It does not copy Connection Manager profiles; Microsoft’s copy-procedure guidance explicitly excludes those profiles. Windows Backup documentation covers selected files and settings, and its settings catalog names Wi-Fi profiles, but does not identify dial-up RAS phone-book entries as a specific backed-up setting. For this task, copy the active PBK file directly.

If the entries do not appear
- Check the file and scope. Confirm the copied file is named
Rasphone.pbkand was placed in the active phone-book location for the intended user or all-users scope. - Restore the previous phone book if needed. If replacing a file made the destination entries disappear, put back the separate backup you made before copying.
- Recheck the connection details. Open the entry and verify its number and modem-related settings; a visible entry does not by itself establish that the destination PC can connect.
- Distinguish profiles from phone-book entries. If the item you need is a Connection Manager profile rather than a standard RAS entry, this PBK-copy procedure does not migrate it.
