These findings can identify risk and guide investigation, but a suspicious setting or affected package version alone does not prove compromise.
Start by preserving the current state
Before changing configuration, upgrading LMCache, or clearing cache data, record the audit time and the system’s identity and context. Capture the installed package version, deployment method, process or container image, host and cluster details, and the configuration the team expects to be in place. Preserve configuration snapshots and relevant logs according to your incident procedures.
For each later finding, record what was expected, what you observed, when and where you observed it, the evidence source, your confidence, and who owns the follow-up. This makes it easier to distinguish a documented deviation from a confirmed security incident.
Check whether the HTTP admin interface is reachable
The LMCache multiprocess configuration reference warns: “The admin API has no authentication; only bind a non-loopback address on a trusted network.” Review the deployed HTTP frontend host and port, then test reachability from the networks that matter—not just from the server itself. Include container port mappings, cluster services, firewalls, and other network paths in that review. LMCache multiprocess Configuration Reference

Compare the observed listener binding and reachable networks with the intended trust boundary. An interface reachable beyond that boundary is a high-priority exposure to address. Restrict access if necessary, while preserving evidence and following incident procedures.
Compare the installed package with CVE-2026-10813
The GitHub Advisory Database entry for CVE-2026-10813 describes a cache-poisoning issue involving a weak hash in hex_hash_to_int16. The advisory lists lmcache versions <= 0.4.6 as affected and lists no patched version. It characterizes the attack vector as local and the attack complexity as high. Identify the installed distribution version and compare it with the advisory’s affected range. Because the advisory lists no patched version, do not infer a fixed release: confirm current remediation guidance in maintainer and release information before upgrading. An affected version is a reason to investigate and seek remediation guidance, not evidence that the server was exploited.
Check peers, transports, and sharing settings
Compare the deployed network and peer configuration with approved deployment records. Review these settings and relationships:

--hostand--port: confirm the listener address and port are expected.- The transport scheme: look for unexplained differences from the approved deployment.
lmcache.mp.server_urls: verify configured server endpoints and their purpose.--p2p-advertise-url, if P2P is enabled: confirm the coordinator URL and peer relationships are expected.
Unfamiliar endpoints, newly enabled sharing, or unexplained configuration changes are investigation leads. The configuration reference documents these options, but does not define a specific setting change as proof of compromise. LMCache multiprocess Configuration Reference
Assess who can access cached data
LMCache’s security article explains that KV cache can encode tokens from system prompts, documents, and conversation history. Treat cache storage as potentially sensitive: identify the configured L2 backend and review which principals can read, copy, snapshot, or administer it. Include storage policies, backups, and storage administrators in scope. LMCache security article

The article describes AES-GCM encryption for L2 cache bytes at rest, not protection across every memory tier. L1 host RAM and L0 GPU memory remain plaintext. Assess access to those tiers separately; at-rest encryption of L2 does not provide end-to-end encryption or protect data from process compromise.

Check whether lookup-hash logging is configured, where its logs are stored, and whether retention and rotation match operational expectations. The configuration reference documents a lookup-hash log directory and rotation settings. Compare available records with host, container, cluster, storage, and network logs, noting gaps or unexplained changes in the timeline. LMCache multiprocess Configuration Reference

The reviewed LMCache documentation does not publish a validated list of compromise indicators. Treat unusual log gaps, configuration changes, access events, or network activity as leads to investigate and correlate—not as definitive signs that an attacker used the system.

Document findings and decide what to do next
- Record each observation alongside the intended state, timestamp, evidence source, confidence, and follow-up owner.
- If the unauthenticated admin interface is reachable outside its trusted boundary, restrict access while preserving evidence.
- If the installed version is within the advisory’s affected range, confirm current maintainer remediation guidance before upgrading; preserve relevant logs and cache state in line with incident procedures.
- Escalate findings through the organization’s incident-response process when evidence warrants it. Do not label a server compromised solely because it has an exposed setting or an affected version.
