To turn off Aero Shake in Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > System > Multitasking and switch off Title bar window shake. You can still arrange windows with Snap: use Windows key + an arrow key, drag a window to an edge, or open Snap layouts with Windows key + Z. The shake setting and Snap are separate controls.
How do I turn off Aero Shake in Windows 11?
- Open Start > Settings > System > Multitasking.
- Turn off Title bar window shake.
Aero Shake is the gesture of shaking an active window’s title bar to minimize other open windows. Turning off this setting stops that gesture; it does not disable Snap or change how windows are positioned. If the label or path differs on your PC, use Settings search for “Multitasking.” Microsoft’s accessibility settings guidance documents the control.
How can I arrange two windows side by side?
With the first app active, press Windows key + Left Arrow or Windows key + Right Arrow to snap it to that side. If Snap Assist appears, choose another open app to fill the remaining space. For a mouse, drag the first window to the left or right edge, then select another app from the suggestions if they appear.
Snap is Windows’ built-in method for positioning and sizing windows. As Microsoft Support explains, “With Snap, you can arrange all the open windows on the screen using the mouse, touch, or keyboard.”

How do I choose a more complex Snap layout?
- With an app open, hover over its maximize or restore button, or press Windows key + Z.
- Select one of the displayed layouts.
- Choose open apps for the remaining spaces when Snap Assist offers them.
Available layouts can vary with display size. Once windows are snapped side by side, drag the divider between adjacent windows to adjust their relative sizes.
Can I arrange windows without dragging them?

- Windows key + Left/Right Arrow: snap the active window to a side.
- Windows key + Z: open Snap layouts.
- Windows key + Shift + Left/Right Arrow: move the active window between monitors.
- Windows key + Home: minimize or restore all windows except the active one. This is a separate shortcut, not the Aero Shake gesture.

Where are Snap settings in Windows 11?
Open Start > Settings > System > Multitasking and expand or inspect Snap windows. Keep Snap windows on to use snapping. Its options separately control features such as suggestions for filling spaces, layouts shown when hovering over maximize, the Snap bar at the top edge, and access to snapped groups through taskbar hover, Task View, and Alt+Tab. These preferences do not control Title bar window shake.

If snapping or its prompts are missing, check that Snap windows is on and review its individual options. A snapped arrangement can be revisited as a Snap group through taskbar app hover; groups are also available in Task View and Alt+Tab. More details are in Microsoft’s Snap guide.
