Start with the same mouse DPI and in-game sensitivity you used on your old mouse, if the new one supports them. A lighter mouse may feel easier to move, but there is no reliable weight-to-sensitivity conversion: test the familiar settings in practice, then change one setting at a time only if your aim consistently feels too fast or too slow.
Keep DPI and in-game sensitivity distinct
DPI describes how sensitive the mouse is to physical movement: at a higher DPI, the pointer or aim generally travels farther for the same hand movement. A game’s sensitivity setting also affects how much the view moves. Record both settings from the old mouse, then match them on the new mouse and in the game where possible. Logitech explains the distinction in its Gaming Mouse Guide: DPI, Sensors & Buying Tips.
Do not assume that the number printed in a mouse profile is the active DPI. Gaming mice may offer several DPI stages and profiles, and a button press or game-specific profile can switch which one is in use. Logitech’s G402 pointer settings instructions, for example, describe configuring up to five DPI levels and profile-specific pointer settings. Confirm the active stage and profile before changing sensitivity.
Compare the mice without changing other variables
- Write down the old setup. Note the old mouse’s DPI, the game’s sensitivity, the active mouse profile and DPI stage, pointer acceleration state, and polling rate.
- Match the familiar settings. Set the new mouse to the same DPI and keep the same in-game sensitivity if available. Verify the active profile and DPI stage rather than assuming the saved values are selected.
- Hold the rest steady. Keep the polling rate, operating-system pointer speed, acceleration setting, and mouse surface unchanged for the comparison. If you change any of these, note it so you can interpret the result.
- Test in practice. Use a practice range or low-stakes game. Try both small, controlled aim adjustments and turns that use more of your available pad space.
- Change one setting if needed. If aim feels consistently too fast or slow, make a small adjustment to either DPI or in-game sensitivity, not both at once. Test again and record whether the change helped.
- Save the result. Once the setting feels comfortable, save it in the game or mouse profile and use it for ordinary play rather than repeatedly cycling through alternatives.
Logitech’s G400s guide recommends trying defaults in practice before changing them. Its examples of 400 DPI for slower movement such as sniping and 4000 DPI for quicker movement are specific examples for that older model’s guide, not universal recommendations. The manufacturer does not prescribe a universal adjustment increment or adaptation period.

If the same DPI still feels different
A matching displayed DPI does not guarantee that two mice feel identical. Before compensating with sensitivity, check that the intended profile and DPI stage are active. Then consider differences beyond weight: shape and hand fit, grip, the tracking surface, and how the mouse feet glide can all affect the experience. Logitech’s guide discusses hand size, palm, claw, and fingertip grips, while its G400s manual notes that performance specifications can vary with the surface.
Pointer acceleration is another separate setting. Logitech’s G402 support instructions identify Windows “Enhance Pointer Precision” as acceleration and recommend leaving it unchecked for gaming accuracy, while noting that preferences can differ. Keep its state consistent while comparing mice; changing acceleration mid-test makes it harder to tell what caused the difference.

Keep polling rate separate from sensitivity
Polling rate is how often a mouse reports its position to the computer; DPI affects movement sensitivity. They are different controls, so hold polling rate constant while tuning sensitivity. Logitech’s polling rate explainer describes the reporting-frequency distinction. Depending on the mouse and setup, a higher polling rate can have system or battery trade-offs; it is not a substitute for adjusting DPI.

A lighter mouse can take less effort to move, which may change how movement feels, but weight alone does not determine a correct DPI or game-sensitivity setting. The manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal correction between mouse weights or a cross-model sensor calibration adjustment. Begin with your familiar settings and adjust according to controlled practice, not a weight calculator.
