To adjust Xbox Game Bar recording preferences in Windows 11, open Settings > Gaming > Captures and review the options available on your PC. The exact quality and frame-rate choices can vary by Windows build and device, so check that page rather than assuming a particular resolution or 60 fps option is available.
Change Xbox Game Bar capture preferences
-
Open Settings, then go to Gaming > Captures. This is where Windows puts capture preferences. You can also find Xbox Game Bar by searching for it in Windows Settings. Microsoft’s Windows keyboard-shortcuts guide and Gaming settings support describe the related controls.
-
Inspect the available video-quality and frame-rate controls on that page. Choose from the options actually shown on your system; menu labels and choices may differ by Windows build and device.
-
To record a clip, open the Game Bar overlay with Win+G, or start and stop recording with Win+Alt+R. Microsoft documents recordings as MP4 files saved in VideosCaptures. See Microsoft’s Game Bar screen-reader guide.

Can you record at 60 fps or a different resolution?
Do not assume Game Bar offers a 60 fps setting or a control for choosing any output resolution. The Microsoft support material cited here does not list the current quality-menu values or guarantee a particular recorded frame rate. A Microsoft Community user reports Standard and High quality options without a custom-resolution control, but that is an individual report, not a universal specification: Microsoft Community discussion. Check Settings > Gaming > Captures on your Windows build to see what it supports. Even if a target frame rate is available, selecting it does not guarantee the finished clip will maintain it.
Capture quality is not the same as game resolution
The game’s rendering resolution and image processing affect what appears on screen; capture preferences govern how Game Bar records. Changing the game’s display resolution is not the same as changing a Game Bar quality preference.

Windows graphics options are under Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Microsoft describes settings there for graphics preferences and windowed-game optimizations; some changes require restarting the game. That page is relevant to game rendering or performance, not the route for adjusting Game Bar capture quality. Microsoft’s windowed-game optimization guidance.
Auto SR is also separate from Game Bar’s capture preferences. Microsoft notes that Game Bar and other capture tools generally capture a window’s contents and may not reproduce the upscaled image shown on the display. Auto SR itself has device, Windows, game, and resolution requirements; it is not a Game Bar quality preset. See Microsoft’s Auto SR documentation.

-
Visual detail and file size: A higher-quality preset may use more storage. Check the resulting clips and available disk space rather than relying on an assumed file-size figure.
-
Performance headroom: Recording uses system resources. If a game becomes less responsive or clips are inconsistent, compare the available capture choices and test a short recording before relying on them.
