On a Kindle Colorsoft, adjust screen brightness from Quick Actions: swipe down from the Home screen, or tap the top of the screen while reading, then use the brightness scale or the plus and minus buttons. Warmth is a separate setting that may appear on compatible devices; Dark Mode changes the screen presentation rather than the front-light level.
Adjust brightness on Kindle Colorsoft
- Open the controls. From Home, swipe down to show Quick Actions. If you are reading a book, tap the top edge of the screen to open the reading controls. Amazon describes these routes in its Kindle brightness guidance.
- Change the light level. Move the on-screen brightness scale, or tap the + and − buttons to make the front light brighter or dimmer. Make small adjustments until the page is comfortable to read.
- Use the long-press shortcut if available. Amazon says compatible Kindle devices can maximize or turn off the front light by long-pressing the corresponding brightness button. This behavior is compatibility-dependent, so use the scale or a regular button press if it does not work on your Colorsoft.
Change screen warmth, if the option is available
Check Settings > Screen and brightness > Brightness and warmth. Amazon’s menu guidance is general Kindle support, not a Colorsoft-specific firmware guide; the warmth controls may depend on device compatibility and software. If the menu label or options differ, use the current Screen and brightness settings shown on your device.
Warmth is not a general color-calibration or hue-selection control. The Colorsoft is a color-display Kindle, but the cited Amazon help does not establish a separate tool for choosing display colors or calibrating them.
Brightness, warmth, and Dark Mode are different controls
- Brightness changes the front-light level.
- Warmth, when offered, changes the screen’s warmer or cooler appearance; it is separate from brightness.
- Dark Mode changes the screen presentation. Amazon lists it as a Colorsoft feature, but it is not a brightness adjustment.
Amazon’s model page lists an auto-adjusting front light and Dark Mode for the Colorsoft family. Manual brightness controls remain useful when you want to set the light yourself. The model page identifies Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (1st Generation), Kindle Colorsoft (1st Generation), and Kindle Colorsoft Kids (1st Generation) as distinct models: Amazon’s Kindle model identification page.
#1 Best Overall
- Read in color – The 7" Colorsoft display is high-contrast and easy on the eyes, with paper-like color that brings covers and content to life.
- A brand-new experience – The Kindle Colorsoft display is optimized for reading in color and is different from the Kindle Paperwhite display, which is optimized for black and white reading.
- Color your pages – Highlight your favorite scenes in yellow, orange, blue, and pink.
- Marathon reading – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 8 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
If you need a different visibility adjustment
Brightness and warmth are not the same as accessibility or text-display settings. Amazon’s Colorsoft setup resources separately cover VoiceView, font enlargement, text display customization, and Assistive Reader. Those features address other reading or access needs; they do not replace the front-light controls. See Amazon’s Colorsoft setup and accessibility help.
