To choose the right option, first find the soundbar’s full model number: available controls and app support vary by model and region.
Find your soundbar’s model number first
Check the label on the soundbar or its original paperwork, then use the complete model number to find the correct Samsung user manual. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance directs owners to the model-specific manual because button functions and setup steps differ between soundbars.
Use the buttons on the soundbar
Press the physical Source button to cycle through available inputs. Select the source that matches the connected TV or playback device; depending on the model, the display may use labels such as HDMI, D-IN, optical, AUX, Bluetooth, TV, SoundConnect, or SoundShare. After changing the source, allow a few seconds for the soundbar to switch. Samsung notes a 4–5 second delay in the troubleshooting context described in its source-selection guidance.
Select Bluetooth without the remote
For Bluetooth pairing, Samsung’s US setup instructions say to press Source on the soundbar until its display reads “BT.” The exact labels and behavior can differ by model, so consult the manual if the display does not match. See Samsung’s Bluetooth setup instructions.

Onboard buttons are a practical fallback for power, input, and basic operation, but do not assume they provide access to every sound adjustment. Check the manual for the controls available on your specific model.
Try SmartThings if your soundbar supports it
SmartThings can control supported soundbars from a phone, including power, volume, and sound mode. To set it up, connect your phone and soundbar as required by the model, sign in to a Samsung account, open SmartThings, and add the soundbar. Samsung’s Australia setup guide describes discovery and manual addition; app screens and available features vary by soundbar, software, phone, operating system, country, service provider, and network.

SmartThings is not compatible with every Samsung soundbar. Samsung’s UK support guidance says SmartThings support begins with 2017 soundbars and that older models use the Multiroom app; verify availability for your model and market on its Wi-Fi setup page. A specific counterexample is the HW-N550: Samsung lists SmartThings Mobile App support as “No” while listing Samsung Audio Remote App (Bluetooth) support as “Yes” in its product specifications.
Advanced sound controls depend on the setup
Some supported soundbar and TV combinations expose Advanced Sound Settings or channel-level adjustments in SmartThings. Samsung’s Voice Enhance instructions describe adjusting the center channel from −6 dB to +6 dB for that feature. This range is specific to the described adjustment; it is not a universal range for all soundbars or sound settings.

Check whether your TV remote can control volume
A TV remote may adjust the soundbar volume in certain connected setups, but compatibility depends on the TV, soundbar, connection, and remote type. For example, Samsung’s HW-A450 guidance describes volume control with an IR TV remote in a specified setup, but says Bluetooth TV remotes that require pairing are not supported for that function. Check both devices’ manuals rather than assuming any TV remote will work.

If the onboard buttons, app, and TV remote do not provide the controls you need, look for a remote confirmed to work with the soundbar’s full model number and regional variant. The cited Samsung guidance is model-specific and does not establish one replacement remote as compatible with every Samsung soundbar.
