For customers who scan a merchant QR code, install a WooCommerce QR-payment gateway that supports your country and payment app, enable it under WooCommerce payment settings, and configure your QR image or account details. Most listed QR gateways describe a manual process in which the buyer submits a transaction ID or receipt and staff verify the transfer before marking the order paid. For in-person collection, WooCommerce’s PayPal Here integration lets a merchant scan an order QR code from the WordPress administration screen; it is not a normal customer-facing checkout method. A conventional processor such as Stripe is a separate option and does not automatically create a customer-scanned QR transfer flow.
Decide which QR payment flow you need
Customer scans your merchant QR code
The QR image appears in the WooCommerce checkout or payment instructions. The customer scans it with a supported wallet or banking app, completes a transfer, and may enter a transaction ID or upload a receipt. The store then checks the payment in the provider account and updates the order. Listings for All QR Pay for WooCommerce, Smjrifle QR Payments, and UPI QR Code Payment Gateway for WooCommerce describe this type of integration.
Merchant scans an order QR code in person
WooCommerce PayPal Here documentation describes an admin-only workflow: an unpaid order shows a QR code in the administration order screen, and the merchant scans it with the PayPal Here app to open the order and take payment. It does not appear as an ordinary customer-facing on-site payment method.
Customer pays through a standard online gateway
WooCommerce’s Stripe extension is designed for processor-based checkout, including cards, express checkout, local methods and buy-now-pay-later methods. Its setup is distinct from displaying a QR code for a manual transfer.

Before installing anything
- Confirm the market: The gateway must support the merchant’s country, account type and the payment apps or banks your customers use. A plugin that mentions UPI or particular wallets is not universally available.
- Choose the confirmation model: The cited QR plugins describe manual verification. Plan who will check the provider account, compare the amount and transaction reference, and change the order status.
- Check current plugin suitability: On the current WordPress.org listing, review compatibility, recent maintenance activity, documentation, support and known issues. Feature descriptions are vendor claims and do not independently prove code quality or security.
- Prepare site basics: You need a working WooCommerce store. Stripe requires a Stripe-supported business country, current PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce versions, and an SSL certificate with HTTPS, according to its setup documentation.
Set up a customer-facing QR payment method
- Pick a compatible gateway. Compare the provider and region named in each plugin listing. Do not install solely because the title says “QR”; verify that your merchant account and customers’ apps are supported.
- Install and activate the plugin. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New, search the exact plugin name, select Install Now, then Activate. For a commercial plugin, use the installation package and instructions supplied by its publisher.
- Open WooCommerce payment settings. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments. Select the newly added QR method and switch it on. The exact method label and fields vary by plugin.
- Enter merchant details. Add the QR image or account information requested by the gateway. Use the account that actually receives the funds, and check the displayed business name and payment instructions before saving.
- Write explicit checkout instructions. Tell buyers to scan the code with the supported app, pay the exact order amount, retain the transaction reference, and submit the reference or receipt if the gateway provides those fields.
- Test with a real or provider-approved test transaction. Confirm that the QR image renders on mobile, the amount and recipient are correct, the evidence reaches the order, and staff can locate the incoming transfer. Never treat an order as paid merely because a customer uploaded an image.
- Reconcile every order. Check the provider or bank account, match amount and reference to the WooCommerce order, then update the order status according to your fulfillment policy. Investigate duplicates, underpayments and expired or reversed transfers before shipping.
Use PayPal Here for an in-person order
This route is for a merchant taking payment face-to-face, not for adding a QR button to public checkout. The documented prerequisites are:
- HTTPS on the WordPress site.
- An eligible PayPal Business account with PayPal Here enabled.
- A compatible device running the PayPal Here app.
- A compatible reader.
Availability depends on location and account eligibility, so confirm those points before designing a process around it. In the administration order screen, open the unpaid order, display its QR code, scan it with the PayPal Here app, and complete payment in the app. Because the integration is described as admin-only, customers will not select it as a normal on-site checkout method.

Use Stripe when you need an integrated web gateway
Choose Stripe when the requirement is processor-managed online checkout rather than a customer scanning a merchant transfer QR code. Follow WooCommerce’s Stripe setup and configuration guide: verify that your business is in a Stripe-supported country, meet the current PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce requirements, enable HTTPS with a valid SSL certificate, connect the Stripe account, and configure the payment methods available to that account. Stripe’s documented capabilities and availability vary by country and account; they should not be presented as a universal QR-payment solution.

Common problems and safe handling
The QR method does not appear at checkout
Confirm the plugin is active, its method is enabled under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments, and any required currency, location or account fields are complete. A method may be hidden when the customer’s country or currency is unsupported.

A customer says payment was made, but the order is still unpaid
Check the receiving account directly and compare the amount, timestamp and transaction reference with the order. Request corrected evidence when details do not match. Do not ship based only on a receipt image or a customer-supplied status.
The QR code is unreadable or points to the wrong account
Replace the configured image or account details, then test from a separate phone at checkout. Verify the recipient name and amount before publishing the method.

The plugin looks abandoned or conflicts with the store
Review its current WordPress.org listing for compatibility, updates, support and documentation. If those signals are inadequate, choose a maintained alternative or a conventional gateway rather than relying on an unverified payment component.

- Merchant country, currency and receiving account are supported.
- Target customers have a compatible wallet or banking app.
- Checkout clearly explains scanning, exact amount and evidence submission.
- Staff have a documented verification and order-status procedure.
- HTTPS is enabled where the selected integration requires it.
- A test confirms the QR image, recipient, amount and order workflow.
- Plugin maintenance, compatibility and support have been reviewed immediately before installation.
