To save a movie in the Apple TV app on iPhone, touch and hold its title, then tap Add to Watchlist. On Apple TV 4K, open the movie page and choose Add or Add to Watchlist. You can save an unreleased movie for later, but Apple’s published instructions do not promise a notification when each Watchlist movie becomes available.
Add a movie to Watchlist on iPhone
- Open the Apple TV app and find the movie.
- Touch and hold the movie, then tap Add to Watchlist. Some featured items also show an Add button.
- To find saved movies, open the Home tab and look in the Watchlist or Continue Watching row. Watchlist access is available on supported devices signed in to the same Apple Account. See Apple’s iPhone Watchlist instructions.
Add a movie on Apple TV 4K
- Open the Apple TV app and go to the movie’s page.
- Select Add or Add to Watchlist. Alternatively, navigate to the title, press and hold the remote’s center button, then select Add to Watchlist.
- Find saved titles in the Watchlist and Continue Watching rows.
Apple says an unreleased item can be added to Watchlist for later viewing. If a title is already saved, its page may show a checkmark that serves as the removal control. See Apple’s Apple TV 4K guide.
Use Watchlist on other supported devices
Apple also documents Watchlist features on smart TVs, streaming devices, gaming consoles, and Windows. Depending on the device, look for an Add control on the title page, a touch-and-hold menu, or a remote’s context menu. The exact layout and gesture vary by platform. Apple’s guide for smart TVs and other devices includes instructions for saving unreleased titles on Windows.

Apple documents saving an unreleased movie, but that is a save-for-later feature—not confirmation that a release alert will arrive. Apple’s privacy notice says it may use Apple TV app activity to send emails and notifications about new features, content, and offers. For iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro, it points users to Settings > Notifications > TV to manage Apple TV app notification preferences. This describes possible communications generally, not a guaranteed alert for a specific Watchlist movie. Read Apple’s Apple TV app privacy notice.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
Apple documents notifications for some new episodes and sports events, but those examples do not establish a setting for alerts when every movie on your Watchlist is released. On Apple TV 4K, some apps can send notifications, with controls under Settings > Notifications; availability depends on region and hardware. See Apple’s notification settings guide and its personalization and sports notifications guidance.

Troubleshoot Watchlist and notification controls
- Can’t find Add to Watchlist: Open the movie’s detail page or check whether it is already saved. A checkmark can indicate that the item is on your list and provide a removal control.
- Notifications are not appearing on Apple TV 4K: Open Settings > Notifications, select the relevant app, and review its settings. Apple notes that notification availability varies by region and hardware.
- Managing iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro notifications: Go to Settings > Notifications > TV and review the Apple TV app’s notification preferences.
- Menus or features differ: Apple TV availability and features vary by country or region and supported device. Check the instructions for your platform rather than assuming the same control appears everywhere.
