To set up a modpack in TLauncher, create a profile in TL MODS using the pack’s exact Minecraft version and modloader, then install its add-ons in that profile. TLauncher’s current documentation does not describe a general way to import a downloaded CurseForge .zip or Modrinth .mrpack file directly.
Check the pack’s Minecraft version and modloader before installing anything. For example, Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge are different environments; matching the Minecraft version alone is not enough.
What to check first

A mismatch can cause a crash, keep mods from appearing, or produce missing-dependency errors.
Method 1: Create a pack in TLauncher’s TL MODS section
This is the documented built-in method. TLauncher’s current official example uses NeoForge. The available loader choices may depend on your TLauncher version and selected Minecraft version.

- Open TLauncher.
- Click TL MODS. TLauncher documents this icon in the launcher’s lower-right corner.
- Click Create on the top panel.
- Enter a name for the modpack or profile.
- Select the required loader type.
- Select the exact Minecraft version required by the pack.
- Choose a loader version if prompted. TLauncher may select it automatically.
- Click Create.
- Open the new profile’s Mods tab and install the required add-ons.
For NeoForge, the documented sequence is TL MODS → Create → NeoForge → Minecraft version → Create → Mods. NeoForge mods must match the selected Minecraft and NeoForge versions.
What this method does not confirm
TLauncher’s current official instructions do not document a general Import ZIP, Import modpack, or Install from CurseForge/Modrinth file control. Do not assume that placing a downloaded pack archive in the mods folder will install it.
Method 2: Install individual mods manually
Use this method when you have individual mod files and want to assemble a compatible profile yourself. It does not automatically recreate every part of a published modpack, such as its configuration files, resource packs, scripts, or dependencies.

- In TLauncher’s version list, select the matching Forge version.
- Click Install.
- Launch that Forge profile once, then close Minecraft.
- Use TLauncher’s Open folder option.
- Open the mods folder. TLauncher says this folder is created automatically after a Forge version is installed.
- Copy the individual mod files into the mods folder.
- Launch the same Forge version again.
- In Minecraft, open the Mods screen and check that the expected mods are listed.
On Windows, the default Minecraft directory is C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft. If TLauncher uses a different game directory, use that directory instead. TLauncher’s manual instructions identify individual mod files with .jar or .zip extensions; that does not mean a complete modpack archive belongs in the mods folder.
Installing NeoForge manually
TLauncher documents automatic NeoForge setup through TL MODS and manual installation from the official NeoForge website.
- Download the NeoForge installer for the required Minecraft version from the official NeoForge website.
- Run the installer.
- Select Install client.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart TLauncher if it was already open.
- Look for the installed NeoForge profile. TLauncher describes names shaped like neoforge-XX.X.XXX; the first three digits identify the Minecraft version and the last three identify the NeoForge version.
- Launch the profile once, close the game, and place compatible mod files in the mods folder inside the game directory.
Do not install a NeoForge mod into a Forge, Fabric, or Quilt profile. The loader is part of the compatibility requirement.

Can you import a CurseForge modpack into TLauncher?
No direct TLauncher procedure for importing a CurseForge export ZIP is documented in the current TLauncher instructions. CurseForge’s separate installation process uses its app: open Browse, select Modpacks, click Install, and manage the result from My Modpacks.
CurseForge also has an Import feature for custom packs exported by its app. Its importer expects a valid ZIP containing manifest.json. This requirement applies to CurseForge’s importer; it does not establish that TLauncher can import the same file. See CurseForge’s modpack installation instructions.

Can you import a Modrinth pack into TLauncher?
No direct TLauncher import workflow for a Modrinth .mrpack file is documented in current TLauncher instructions. The Modrinth app uses Browse → Install. Modrinth lists MultiMC, Prism Launcher, and ATLauncher as third-party client-side tools for playing its packs, not TLauncher. See Modrinth’s modpack documentation.
You can either install the pack with the Modrinth app or a supported third-party launcher, or create an equivalent TLauncher profile and add the required mods and other files manually. A Modrinth pack includes more than a list of mods: its configuration and dependency information may be needed, so a manual recreation may not be identical.
Troubleshooting TLauncher modpacks

Recommended installation order
- Identify the exact Minecraft version.
- Identify the exact loader and, where specified, its version.
- Create the matching TLauncher profile in TL MODS, or install the loader manually.
- Launch the profile once so TLauncher creates the required directories.
- Install mods through the profile’s Mods tab or copy individual compatible files into mods.
- Add configuration and other pack files only when you know where the pack expects them.
- Launch the game and check the in-game Mods screen.
FAQ
Where is the TLauncher mods folder?
On Windows, the default location is C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods. If TLauncher uses a custom game directory, use that directory’s mods folder instead.

Can I put a complete modpack ZIP in the mods folder?
No. The mods folder is for individual mod files. A complete modpack may also contain configuration and other instance files, so copying the archive there will not install the pack.
Does TLauncher have an Import Modpack button?
The current official TLauncher instructions document TL MODS → Create and installing add-ons through the Mods tab. They do not document a universal importer for CurseForge or Modrinth archives.
Can I use Forge instead of NeoForge?
Only if the modpack and every mod support Forge for the exact Minecraft version you selected. Forge and NeoForge are separate loaders and are not automatically interchangeable.
Why are my mods missing after installation?
You may have launched a different profile from the one where the mods were installed, used the wrong game directory, or selected an incompatible loader. Check the active profile and its Minecraft version first.
The Bottom Line
In TLauncher, start with TL MODS → Create, select the pack’s exact Minecraft version and loader, and install add-ons through the profile’s Mods tab. For downloaded files, install individual compatible mods into the matching mods folder. Do not copy a complete CurseForge or Modrinth archive there or assume TLauncher can directly import it.
