You can link an iPhone Lock Screen to a Focus so selecting that wallpaper turns the Focus on. Apple’s documented Lock Screen workflow does not add a separate Focus on/off button to the Lock Screen; for direct activation, use Control Center.
Link a Focus to a Lock Screen
This option is useful when you want a particular wallpaper and Focus to work together—for example, a Work Lock Screen linked to Work Focus. Apple documents this wallpaper-linking feature in iOS 16 and later.
- Wake your iPhone, then touch and hold the Lock Screen until the wallpaper gallery appears.
- Swipe to the Lock Screen you want to configure. If it is not already in edit mode, tap Customize.
- Tap Focus near the bottom of the Lock Screen preview.
- Choose the Focus to associate with that Lock Screen, such as Work, Personal, Sleep, or Do Not Disturb.
- Close the Focus picker and finish editing.
Later, select that Lock Screen in the wallpaper gallery to turn on its linked Focus. Selecting a different Lock Screen switches to the Focus linked to that wallpaper, if one is set. Turn a Focus on or off directly
If you want to choose a Focus without changing your wallpaper, use Control Center:

- Open Control Center. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right edge. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Focus, then tap the Focus you want to activate.
To turn off an active Focus from the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Focus icon shown there, then tap the active Focus. In Control Center, tapping another Focus turns off the one that was active. See Apple’s iPhone guide to turning a Focus on or off.
If Control Center does not open from the Lock Screen
Lock Screen access may be disabled in the passcode settings. Check the appropriate path for your iPhone:

- Face ID: Settings > Face ID & Passcode
- Home button: Settings > Touch ID & Passcode
Under Allow Access When Locked, review the Control Center access option. Disabling access can help prevent someone holding your phone from viewing personal information through Lock Screen features, but it also removes your quick access to those features. Apple describes these controls in its passcode settings guidance.

To change the notifications and other behavior associated with a Focus, go to Settings > Focus and select it. From there, configure allowed people and apps, schedules, Lock Screen options, and any Lock Screen or Home Screen association you want. Apple also documents creating custom Focus modes and setting Focus filters on its Focus setup page.
