Outlook has three different ways to keep calendar information beside your mail: Calendar Peek, the classic Outlook To-Do Bar, and a separate Outlook window. The correct option depends on whether you use classic Outlook or new Outlook for Windows.
To identify classic Outlook, look for a File tab on the ribbon. New Outlook does not have that tab. Calendar Peek and the To-Do Bar are classic-Outlook features; they are not available in new Outlook.
Put Calendar beside Mail in classic Outlook
The quickest method is to dock Calendar Peek. It shows upcoming appointments in a narrow panel beside the main Outlook window while you work in Mail.
Method 1: Dock Calendar Peek
- Open Mail in Outlook.
- On the Navigation Bar, right-click Calendar.
- Select Dock the peek.
Calendar Peek is now pinned to the side of the Outlook window. You can also open it by pointing to the Calendar icon on the Navigation Bar and then selecting the Pin button.

Important: Calendar Peek docking is view-specific. If you dock it in Mail, Outlook does not automatically keep it docked when you switch to Tasks. Dock the peek separately in each Outlook view where you want it.
Method 2: Use the To-Do Bar for a larger calendar panel
The To-Do Bar can show a calendar, tasks, and people on the side of classic Outlook. It is useful when the small Calendar Peek does not show enough information.
- Select View on the ribbon.
- Select To-Do Bar.
- Select Calendar.
To hide the panel, select View > To-Do Bar > Off.
The Calendar section of the To-Do Bar cannot be customized independently. If you want to change the order of its sections, hide the sections and add them again in the order you want.

Can you add a calendar to the side in new Outlook?
New Outlook for Windows does not currently include Calendar Peek, List view, or Schedule view. It also does not use the classic Outlook To-Do Bar. Therefore, instructions such as View > To-Do Bar > Calendar will not work in new Outlook.

For a quick view while reading mail, use Outlook’s available calendar and productivity panels, or open Calendar in a separate window if your Outlook version supports it. If you need a permanently docked calendar panel specifically, classic Outlook is the version that supports Calendar Peek and the To-Do Bar.

- In the Arrange group, select Split view.
The calendars appear side by side. To combine them into one calendar surface, deselect Split view. Outlook then uses an overlay view, with each calendar identified by its assigned color.

Keep a group of calendars together
Classic Outlook lets you save a set of calendars as a calendar group. This is useful for teams, projects, or family calendars that you regularly view together.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Display the calendars you want to save.
- Select Home > Calendar Groups > Save as New Calendar Group.
- Enter a name for the group and save it.
To add an existing calendar to a group, drag it from the Navigation Pane onto the target group. Select the group’s checkbox to display its calendars. They appear side by side or in horizontal Schedule View.
To overlay calendars in the group, select View in Overlay Mode on the tab of each calendar you want to overlay.
Clearing a calendar’s checkbox or selecting Close Calendar changes only the current display. It does not delete the calendar or remove it from the group.
Open Calendar in its own window
In classic Outlook, opening Calendar in a separate window is useful if the docked panel is too small. The steps below are for classic Outlook; the supplied research does not establish an equivalent method for new Outlook.

FAQ
How do I put my Outlook calendar on the right side of my emails?
In classic Outlook, right-click Calendar on the Navigation Bar and select Dock the peek. You can also point to Calendar and select the Pin button. New Outlook does not currently provide Calendar Peek.
Why can’t I find To-Do Bar in Outlook?
The To-Do Bar is a classic Outlook feature. If your Outlook window does not have a File tab, you are probably using new Outlook, where View > To-Do Bar is not available.
How do I show two Outlook calendars side by side?
Open Calendar, select the calendars in the Calendar list or Navigation Pane, and use Split view in new Outlook or Outlook on the web. In classic Outlook, select the checkbox beside another calendar; it opens beside the first one.
Does closing a calendar delete it?
No. Clearing a calendar’s checkbox or selecting Close Calendar removes it only from the current display. It does not delete the calendar or remove it from a calendar group.
Can I add someone else’s Outlook calendar to the side?
Yes, if you have access. In new Outlook for a work or school account, use Calendar > Add calendar > Add from directory. In classic Outlook, use Home > Open Calendar. Personal Outlook.com users must have the calendar shared with them.
Why does my shared calendar not affect my free/busy time?
Outlook uses events on the primary calendar when it calculates availability in Scheduling Assistant. Events placed on a secondary calendar do not change that free/busy information.
The Bottom Line
For classic Outlook, use Calendar > Dock the peek for a compact calendar beside Mail, or use View > To-Do Bar > Calendar for a larger panel. New Outlook does not support either classic side panel, so use Calendar’s split view, a shared-calendar view, or another available way to view Calendar.
