To add a Cc or Bcc recipient, start a new message or reply and select Cc or Bcc beside the To line. If Bcc is not visible, the steps to show it depend on whether you use new Outlook, classic Outlook, or Outlook.com.

Choose Cc or Bcc

Field Who can see the addresses
Cc Other recipients can see the copied recipients in the message’s recipient information.
Bcc Bcc recipients receive a copy, but their addresses are hidden from other recipients. Microsoft says recipients cannot see whether the sender added Bcc recipients.

Bcc hides the Bcc list from ordinary recipients; it is not a guarantee of privacy beyond that behavior. For Microsoft’s explanation, see Show, hide, and view the Bcc field in Outlook for Windows.

Add Cc or Bcc in new Outlook for Windows

  1. Select New > Mail, or open a reply.
  2. If Bcc is not shown, select Options > Show fields > Show Bcc.
  3. Select the Cc or Bcc field and enter the recipients.
  4. Complete the message and select Send.

Microsoft says the Bcc box stays available on later messages until you turn it off. If these labels do not match your screen, you may be using classic Outlook instead. See Microsoft’s Outlook for Windows Bcc instructions.

Add Cc or Bcc in classic Outlook for Windows

  1. Select New Email, or open a reply or forward.
  2. If the message opens in its own window, select Options > Bcc. If you are composing in the Reading Pane, select Bcc on the ribbon.
  3. Enter recipients in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields. To enter multiple addresses, separate them with semicolons.
  4. Compose the message and select Send.

You can turn the Bcc field off for future messages using the same control that displayed it. For Microsoft’s version-specific directions, see Show, hide, and view the Bcc field in Outlook for Windows.

Find a recipient who is not appearing

Type the person’s name or full email address directly into the recipient field you chose. Suggestions may come from your contacts, your organization’s directory, or addresses used in previous messages. The suggestions vary with Outlook version and account configuration; some Exchange Online setups use Microsoft Search suggestions instead of the older Recent People and Other Suggestions categories. Microsoft describes these differences in Use suggested recipients to address email messages.

In Outlook.com, some customers may not see a contacts list after selecting To or Cc. Typing on the To or Cc line can still surface matching contacts; see Microsoft’s recipient instructions.
