To show the current meditation track inside your YouTube live video, add a text or browser overlay to your scene in OBS Studio. A text source is the simplest option if you can update the title yourself; an automatic overlay needs access to track information from the app playing the music. YouTube’s broadcast title is separate metadata and does not put changing track names over the picture.
Add a track title manually in OBS Studio
This approach works when you or a moderator can change the label as the music changes. OBS Text Sources can display typed text or read text from a file. [OBS sources guide]
- Select the scene. In OBS, choose the scene containing the meditation visual and audio.
- Add a Text source. In the Sources dock, select +, choose a Text source, and give it a recognizable name.
- Enter the label. Use a concise format such as “Now playing: Track title — Artist.” Include only details you know are accurate.
- Place it over the picture. Resize and position the text in the preview. Make sure its source is above the background or video source in the Sources list; sources higher in the list appear over those below.
- Change the text when the track changes. Edit the source text during the stream, or use a text file that you update when a new track begins.
- Test before going live. Record a short preview or run an appropriate private test to confirm the label is visible, readable, and updating as intended. OBS recommends testing settings before a first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
For a calm meditation scene, keep the label unobtrusive and use enough contrast to read it against the image. Check the result at the same viewing size your audience is likely to use.
Make the track title update automatically
Automation requires two things: a source that knows which track is playing and a layer that renders its title into the OBS scene. If your playback app or playlist does not provide usable track metadata to the overlay, the label cannot update reliably just by adding a visual source.

Use a browser overlay
In the Sources dock, add a Browser source and configure it with the overlay’s URL or local webpage. OBS Browser sources can load webpages into a scene and provide viewport dimensions and custom CSS settings. See the OBS Browser Source guide for the source’s setup options. Confirm that your chosen overlay receives the currently playing track from the exact music app you use.
Use track metadata to update a text file
If an integration can read track changes from your playback app and write the current title to a text file, set up an OBS Text source to read that file. This keeps the visible layer simple, but the metadata connection must work throughout the stream. OBS documents text sources that can read from a file in its sources guide.

Check compatibility, then test the whole chain
An OBS forum resource named Music on Stream describes a browser-based current-song overlay. Its listing says it supports YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Pretzel, and Epidemic Sound, and can use YouTube chapters or video-description playlists as title inputs. The listing reports an update on September 18, 2025; these are the resource author’s compatibility claims, not an independent verification. Check the current version and your specific playback setup, then test that track changes actually appear before relying on it for a long stream. See the Music on Stream listing.
- Automation: Manual text is straightforward but needs an update for each track. An integration can update automatically only if it receives track changes.
- Player compatibility: Confirm support for the particular service, player, playlist, and overlay combination you will use.
- Operational complexity: Browser overlays and metadata integrations introduce extra components that can fail; test them before a long session.
Playlists do not automatically provide track titles
OBS’s Media Source supports listed audio and video formats. OBS also documents a VLC Video source for playlist playback; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Playback support does not guarantee that a title overlay can read each playlist entry’s metadata. See OBS’s Media Sources guide. If the playlist player does not expose track details to your overlay or integration, update a text file manually or use another metadata source that you have verified.

Keep the in-picture label separate from the YouTube stream title
The OBS text or browser source becomes part of the outgoing video composition. The title shown on YouTube’s listing is broadcast metadata; changing it does not add a track name over the meditation picture. To show each track title within the video, render it as an OBS source or equivalent overlay.
Check music rights before streaming
A title or artist credit does not establish permission to use a recording. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If it identifies such content, YouTube may show a placeholder image and warn the creator; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also notes that even a creator who licensed third-party material may need the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist, or the live stream can still be interrupted. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and confirm your rights before broadcasting.
