To view recent website errors in cPanel, sign in and open Metrics » Errors. The page shows up to 300 of the newest web-server error entries, with the latest first. If the event is older, the page is unavailable, or the message does not match the problem, you may need the relevant server log from your hosting provider or administrator.

View recent web-server errors in cPanel

  1. Sign in to your cPanel account.
  2. Open Metrics » Errors. If you do not see Metrics, use cPanel’s search field to look for “Errors.”
  3. Review entries around the time the problem occurred. cPanel lists up to 300 recent entries in reverse chronological order, so the newest appears first. The limit is for the interface, not a guarantee that older log data has been deleted. cPanel’s Errors documentation describes this interface and its limit.

Look for timestamps and messages that coincide with the failed page load or action. These entries can point to a server-side problem, but the Errors page is only a recent, account-level view; it may not contain the information needed to diagnose every issue.

What you are investigating Where to look What it provides
Recent web-server error messages Metrics » Errors Recent error-log entries, up to 300, newest first. cPanel documentation.
Visitor requests, URLs requested, or traffic around an incident Metrics » Raw Access Compressed domain access-log downloads that can be opened after download. These record requests; they are not a replacement for server error messages. cPanel documentation.
Older entries or a service-specific error Ask the hosting provider or server administrator for the correct log file Individual server-side logs; the path and your ability to read them depend on server configuration and privileges. cPanel’s log-file inventory.

Access older or missing error entries

If the relevant timestamp is outside the Errors page’s 300-entry window, or no useful entry appears, ask your host or administrator for the log covering the incident time. The provider controls server logging and may need to locate the right file or grant access. cPanel’s log-file inventory lists common server-side locations, but notes that paths can vary when configuration changes. Those paths are not a promise that an ordinary cPanel account can read the files.

If the Errors item is missing, the hosting provider may have disabled it; cPanel says providers can enable or disable the feature. Ask the host whether it is available for your account. cPanel Errors documentation

Check whether the error came from Apache, NGINX, or another service

The log you need depends on the server stack. On systems using NGINX as a reverse proxy in front of Apache, cPanel’s Errors interface shows Apache web-traffic errors, not entries from NGINX’s own error log. Apache and NGINX logs are separate, and other services maintain their own logs. If the error is not in cPanel’s Errors view, ask the administrator which service handled the failing request and which log covers it. See cPanel’s guidance on Apache and service logging.

Common server-side paths

cPanel documents Apache domain log data under /etc/apache2/logs/domlogs/USER, Apache ModSecurity audit information under /var/log/apache2/modsec_audit.log, and suEXEC audit information under /var/log/apache2/suexec_log. Its Apache overview also lists /etc/apache2/logs/error_log and /etc/apache2/logs/domlogs/; service guidance identifies /var/log/apache2/error_log as a common Apache service error log. These are examples of server-side locations, not universal paths or files necessarily available to cPanel users. Your host’s configuration determines the actual path and access. cPanel log inventory · About Apache · How to Restart Services

Errors vs. Raw Access: which should you use?

Use Errors when you need recent web-server error messages. Use Raw Access when you need a record of domain requests—for example, to see whether a visitor or crawler requested a particular URL. Raw Access supplies compressed files for download; it does not show a substitute set of error messages. Availability of these cPanel interfaces depends on the provider. The current cPanel Raw Access documentation applies to version 126 through latest, while the Errors documentation applies to version 102 through latest; interface labels and availability can vary by installation.
