It runs as a Northstar plugin, hooking the game’s DirectX 11 renderer and camera to add stereoscopic views, 6DoF head tracking, motion-controller weapon aiming, adapted controls, interactive reloads, Titan-specific inputs, and adjustable HUD elements. The creator currently labels it an alpha release for single-player only; it is not an official game release.
How the mod turns Titanfall 2 into a VR game
The creator describes Titanfall2VR as a Northstar client plugin, packaged as a DLL and an INI file. It hooks the game’s DirectX 11 renderer and camera, then uses an OpenXR session to drive the player’s view. Northstar is required to load the plugin. Northstar’s FAQ explains that its launcher attaches to the game and injects custom code and scripts; the VR mod uses that mechanism rather than replacing Titanfall 2 with a separate VR game.

The conversion adds stereo rendering and six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) head tracking, with an adjustable neck model. The creator documents alternating stereo rendering: the game draws one eye per game frame, so each eye refreshes at half the headset’s frame rate. That is how this mod renders its stereo view, not a general specification for VR headsets.
Head movement controls where you look, while the right-hand controller aims your weapon. You can adjust eye height, world scale, weapon grip position, and aiming-down-sights behavior. The creator says the plugin does not modify game files or distribute game assets.

What changes to controls and combat
Pilot movement and actions
The mod presents VR controller input to Titanfall 2 at its gamepad input point. It maps VR actions to the campaign’s existing Xbox-style controls instead of replacing the game’s underlying action system. The creator’s controls guide documents these default mappings:
| Input | Default action |
|---|---|
| Right trigger | Fire |
| Left trigger | Aim down sights |
| Right A | Jump |
| Right B | Crouch |
| Left X | Reload or use |
| Left Y | Tap to change weapon; hold for objective view |
| Left stick | Move; click to sprint |
| Right stick | Turn horizontally; move vertically for two-option prompts |
| Controller grips | Use the tactical ability or ordnance |
Settings include snap or smooth turning, turn response and deadzone adjustments, haptics, and three crouch modes. The available control layout is adapted to VR, but the campaign’s fast movement remains: wall-running and grappling can feel intense, and Road to VR reported that this movement may be uncomfortable for some players. That is a caution, not a measured rate of discomfort.
Weapon aiming and reloads
Motion controllers let you aim weapons with your right hand, and the mod adds manual or interactive reload behavior. Road to VR reports interactive reloading for every gun in the game, including a gesture-based reload for the Wingman. The creator also documents grip calibration, ADS settings, and optional steadiness support.

Titan controls
Titan actions are adapted to the available VR controls. The controls guide describes holding a modifier so the left thumbstick can serve as a directional pad, which is useful for actions assigned to directional inputs. The documentation establishes that Titan controls are included, but does not establish that every Titan action has been independently tested.

The creator documents adjustable position and scale for individual HUD elements, including ammunition, the top-left cluster, name labels, reticle, waypoints, and Titan cockpit elements such as the cockpit surround, dash bars, and missile-lock rings. The in-headset settings panel contains 72 settings across eight categories, according to the controls guide. Options include resolution, world scale, eye height, turn and crouch modes, and weapon positioning.
The creator’s README says the mod defaults to 75% resolution because it does not measure a user’s GPU capability. You can raise or lower that setting in the in-headset menu, and the creator says changing it does not affect field of view. Treat 75% as a configurable starting value, not a universal performance recommendation.

Installation, profile, and save separation
CircuitLord’s installer README says the installer detects Titanfall 2 installations from Steam, EA, or Xbox PC installs, checks for the EA app, and installs Northstar and the VR mod into a separate TF2VR profile. The documented launch flow keeps the ordinary game launch unmodded; after starting a VR runtime, you use the installer’s Launch in VR button.
According to the installer documentation, the VR campaign saves and settings are stored separately under %LOCALAPPDATA%RespawnTitanfall2_VR, leaving regular campaign saves untouched. The installer creator also states that the mods and installer are community projects, not affiliated with or endorsed by the game’s developers or publishers.

Supported scope and headset compatibility
The creator labels the release alpha and single-player only, and requires Northstar. Road to VR likewise described the release as supporting the single-player campaign in its October 2, 2026 report. Do not expect multiplayer support based on the published scope.
The creator documents tests with Meta Quest 3 and Play For Dream MR using Virtual Desktop’s VDXR runtime. Other headsets and OpenXR runtimes are untested in the creator’s notes; that means compatibility is unknown, not that those setups are necessarily incompatible. The creator also lists a test PC configuration—Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 32 GB of memory, and Windows 11—which describes one setup, not a performance guarantee for other systems.
Quick Recap
Who the conversion is suited to
- Consider it if: you want to replay Titanfall 2’s single-player campaign in VR, have a Northstar-capable PC setup, and are comfortable configuring controls and movement options.
- Check compatibility carefully if: your headset or runtime differs from the creator-documented Quest 3 or Play For Dream MR setup with VDXR.
- It may not suit you if: you are looking for multiplayer VR or are sensitive to fast movement such as wall-running and grappling.
