iOS 26 puts Photo and Video up front in the iPhone Camera app, while keeping the other camera modes a swipe away. It also groups camera controls onscreen for quicker adjustments. Here’s how to navigate the revised layout and use it to take photos and videos.
What changed in the iPhone Camera app in iOS 26?
Apple describes the redesign this way in its iOS 26 feature summary: “A simplified design highlights Photo and Video modes for quick access, while the other camera modes are just a swipe away.” In practice, Photo and Video are the prominent choices; you no longer need to look through the full mode row to reach those two.
Other modes remain available by swiping across the mode selector. Camera controls are grouped onscreen, so you can adjust settings while framing a shot. Apple’s illustrated Camera screen includes Flash, Live, Timer, Exposure, Styles, and Aspect controls. Which modes and features appear can depend on the iPhone model.
On supported models, Camera can also detect a smudged lens and recommend cleaning it. Apple does not describe this hint as available on every iPhone running iOS 26.

How do I find Portrait or other camera modes in iOS 26?
Open Camera from the Home Screen, Lock Screen, or Control Center. Photo is selected when Camera first opens. Tap Photo or Video for either prominent mode, or swipe left or right across the mode selector to browse the other modes available on your iPhone.
Apple’s Camera basics guide lists modes including Time-lapse, Slo-mo, Cinematic, Portrait, Spatial, and Pano. The available modes vary by model, so a mode missing from your screen may not be supported on that iPhone.

How to take a photo or start a video
Take a photo

Open Camera and select Photo, if it is not already selected.

Frame the subject, then tap the onscreen shutter button or press either volume button to take the picture.

On supported iPhones, Camera Control can open Camera; another click can take a photo.
Record a video

Open Camera and switch to Video.

Frame the scene and tap the record button to start recording; tap it again to stop.

Depending on the iPhone, you may also be able to start or stop recording with a volume button or Camera Control. These shortcuts are not available on every model. See Apple’s video recording guide for the supported controls.
Which iPhones support Dual Capture?
Dual Capture records you and the scene in front of the iPhone at the same time. Apple lists support for iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air in its iOS 26 video guide. It is not a feature to assume is available on every iPhone that can run iOS 26.

Time-lapse tip: keep the iPhone steady
For a time-lapse, set the iPhone on a stable surface or tripod so the framing does not shift during capture. Apple also notes that iPhone 12 or later can use a tripod for more detail and brightness in low-light time-lapse recording. A tripod is optional; it is not needed to use the redesigned Camera app.
