Winning depends on more than collecting high-stat pets. Turn order, tier access, ability timing, placement, and how well your pets support one another all shape the result.
How a turn works: shop first, automatic battle second
Each turn has two phases. In the shop, you spend gold on pets and food, roll for different options, freeze shop items to keep them for a later turn, and rearrange your team. The community-maintained Super Auto Pets Wiki’s Basics guide says players receive 10 gold by default at the start of a round. You can field up to five pets, although the turn-one team limit is three.
Pets have attack, health, and abilities. Attack determines damage dealt when a pet hits; health determines how much damage it can take before fainting. After preparation, combat resolves automatically, so your main battle decisions happen before the fight begins.
How automatic combat resolves
- Start-of-battle effects happen first. Pets with applicable abilities at this timing act before attacks.
- The front pets attack. Your rightmost pet attacks the opposing team’s leftmost pet. Their attacks resolve simultaneously, so each can deal damage even if the other faints from the exchange.
- Fainted pets leave the line. The next pet moves into the front position, and combat continues.
- The battle ends when a team runs out of pets. The team with a survivor wins; if both teams are eliminated, the result is a draw.
This order makes placement consequential. A pet at the right edge is first to attack; one behind it may become the attacker only after the pet ahead faints. Abilities that depend on neighbors, attack sequence, or fainting can therefore work differently when you rearrange the same pets.

When shop tiers unlock
Shop access increases every other turn, starting at tier one. The community wiki’s Basics guide and Pets reference give this progression:
| Turn | Shop tier reached |
|---|---|
| 1 | Tier 1 |
| 3 | Tier 2 |
| 5 | Tier 3 |
| 7 | Tier 4 |
| 9 | Tier 5 |
| 11 | Tier 6 |
A new tier broadens the pool of pets available in the shop; it does not mean every pet from lower tiers disappears. The wiki describes pets as purchasable units with individual stats and abilities, generally costing three gold, and confirms the five-pet team cap.

- Discover a magical lineup of creatures and enchanted items that unlock new synergies, combos, and creative strategies for endless replayability.
- Play as a complete two-player game right out of the box or mix with Classic and Golden Packs to expand gameplay and increase variety.
- Combine multiple packs to allow 4 or 6 players to join the action, making it perfect for group game nights, parties, and competitive tabletop sessions.
- Easy-to-learn mechanics paired with deep tactical choices make this auto battler ideal for both casual players and experienced strategy enthusiasts.
Use the unlock schedule to plan around when a strategy can come together. If a key pet is not available until a later tier, build a team that can function before then and be ready to adapt if the shop does not offer the piece you want.
What pet levels change
Buying duplicate pets can merge them, granting experience toward a level. A level-up strengthens that pet’s ability, so a duplicate can be useful even when it does not add a new team slot. According to the community wiki, a level-up can offer a choice of two pets from the next tier; it also describes an exception for merging two level-two pets into a level-three pet.

Because game rules and abilities can change, check the current in-game rules before relying on a specific level-up interaction or advice tied to a particular pack or patch.
How to judge whether pets have good synergy
Synergy is the way two or more pets’ abilities, stats, and positions support a shared plan. It is not simply a matter of collecting pets with strong abilities: those abilities need to trigger at useful times, and the team must be able to reach that point in the game. The wiki’s strategy index includes Kangaroo plus Camel as an example of a named pairing, but a pairing is not automatically optimal in every pack or version.

- Timing and tier access: Can the team work before its key pets appear, and can it transition as later tiers unlock?
- Ability triggers: Do the abilities activate at moments that reinforce one another, such as during combat, on attack, or when a pet faints?
- Stats and scaling: Do attack and health give the team enough staying power for the battles ahead, while supporting its ability plan?
- Positioning: Does the lineup put pets in the right order for adjacency, front-line, attack-order, or faint effects?
- Food and flexibility: Can food improve a pet that matters to the plan, and can you still field a workable team if a desired shop option never appears?
These checks help compare team ideas without assuming there is one strongest composition. Pet stats, abilities, pack rosters, modes, and balance can change, and the available mechanics references do not establish a current, version-specific ranking.
