Your PlayStation account can show synchronized trophy information on PS4 and PS5, but that does not mean every game’s PS4 and PS5 versions share a trophy list or that trophies automatically unlock in both versions. Sony’s general guidance does not set a universal rule: check the specific game’s trophy lists and official information before choosing a version.
Do PS4 and PS5 versions share trophy lists?
Not necessarily. Sony explains how to view and synchronize trophy information, but its general support pages do not say that every paired PS4 and PS5 version uses one shared list. Nor do they establish that earning a trophy in one version automatically awards it in the other. The answer can depend on the game.
In Sony’s trophy guide, trophies are tied to objectives in individual games; their number, grades, and conditions vary by game. For a particular title, inspect its available trophy lists and the game’s official information rather than assuming the PS5 version will inherit the PS4 list.
Will my PS4 trophies appear on PS5?
Sony instructs players preparing to transfer data to sign in to the same account on PS5 and synchronize trophy information first. Trophy synchronization concerns the account’s trophy information; it is separate from which game version is installed and from whether a game supports transferring its saved progress.

To view trophies on PS5, open your profile’s Trophies area, select a game, then select a trophy to see its details. Sony’s PS5 data-transfer guide includes trophy synchronization among the preparation steps for a console transfer.
How to choose the PS4 or PS5 version on a PS5
If both versions are available, PS5 lets you choose which one to play. Selecting a compatible PS4 game is not the same as installing a native PS5 version, and an upgrade offer is a separate option that may have its own eligibility requirements.

- Open Game Library on PS5 and select the game.
- Open the options menu (…) and choose Select Version.
- Choose the PS4 or PS5 version shown. If the option is unavailable, both versions may not be available to your account or for that game.
- Before starting, check the game’s PS4 and PS5 trophy lists and any official notes about cross-version trophies or saved-data transfer.
Sony’s game support guidance describes version selection and upgrade conditions. PS5 is backward compatible with the majority of PS4 games, but compatibility alone does not mean a native PS5 version or upgrade is available. Sony’s backward-compatibility page says Store listings identify incompatible titles as “Playable on: PS4 only.”
Do saved-data transfers make trophies unlock automatically?
No general conclusion follows from a save transfer. Sony says the ability to transfer a game save between that game’s PS4 and PS5 versions is decided by the developer and varies by title. Its statement concerns saved games, not trophy-list sharing or automatic trophy unlocks.

Before moving a save, confirm that the particular game supports the transfer and follow its instructions. Do not treat successful save migration as proof that trophies will carry over or pop automatically; verify that behavior separately for the game.
Disc upgrades and other version details
For an eligible PS4 disc, Sony says a PS5 with a disc drive can upgrade the game to a digital PS5 version. The disc must be inserted each time you play that upgraded digital game, and PS4 discs cannot be used on PS5 Digital Edition. Eligible digital PS4 games may also have upgrade offers. Sony notes that PS4 games redeemed through a PlayStation Plus benefit are not eligible unless otherwise indicated. Check the individual game’s offer and terms before relying on an upgrade.

What to verify for a specific game
- Which version you will launch: the PS4 game running on PS5 or a native PS5 version.
- Whether the PS5 version is available to you, and whether an upgrade offer has eligibility or purchase requirements.
- Whether the developer supports moving saved data between versions.
- Whether the game has a shared or separate PS4 and PS5 trophy list, and whether any trophies unlock across versions automatically.
Sony’s general documentation covers the first three areas to varying degrees, but does not establish a universal answer to the final trophy-list question. Use game-specific official information or inspect the trophy lists visible for that title.
