Nex Playground uses a built-in wide-angle camera and on-device computer vision and AI to follow players’ movements. Nex says the system tracks 18 body nodes in real time; players move to control games, while the included remote is for setup and menu navigation—not gameplay.
How the motion tracking works
The camera is the system’s movement input: it sees players in front of the console, and Nex’s proprietary computer-vision and AI system interprets their movement for games. Nex says its algorithms run directly on the Playground. Its public materials do not explain the model architecture or the precise image-processing steps, so details such as a particular pose-estimation method or skeletal reconstruction should not be assumed.
Nex’s broader Motion Engine description calls the technology real-time and vision-based, says it is powered by machine learning, and notes integration with Unity. That gives context for Nex’s technology, but does not document every implementation detail of the Playground.
What “18 nodes” means
Nex says Playground tracks 18 body nodes in real time. The company’s public support page does not identify the locations of those nodes or explain how each one maps to a game action. Games can translate body movement into different interactions, but Nex has not published a universal gesture-to-action map.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Why no wearable controller is needed
Players do not need to wear a tracking suit, attach body sensors, or hold a controller while playing. They use body movements to interact with games. The included remote is used for setup and navigation, such as selecting games; Nex says it is not required for gameplay.
How many people can play at once?
Nex says the system can track up to four players concurrently, depending on the game. That is a maximum, not a guarantee that every game supports four players. Nex’s Help Center lists both the 18 tracked body nodes and the game-dependent player limit on its movement-tracking support page.

How to position the console
Tracking depends on the camera having a clear view of the players. Nex recommends centering the console in front of or below the TV, near the edge of its surface so the camera can see as much as possible. Its product guidance recommends placing the device 15–60 inches high and allowing a play area of about 6 by 6 feet. These are Nex’s recommendations, not a guarantee that every room layout will work equally well.
- Keep the camera’s view of the play area as open as possible.
- Position the console at the recommended height and near the TV.
- Leave enough clear floor space for players to move within the camera’s view.
The console package lists a remote, power cable, HDMI cable, magnetic privacy cover, and five-game Starter Pack. Nex presents the camera-based tracking as built into the system, so the published setup does not call for buying a separate camera or wearable motion hardware. See the Nex Playground product page for its product and placement details.

What Nex says about video, privacy, and offline play
Nex says motion-tracking algorithms run on the device and that video is not processed in the cloud. Its Help Center also says downloaded games can be played offline. Those statements describe cloud processing and offline access; they do not mean that the camera never captures or temporarily processes images.
Nex’s product FAQ says certain games may temporarily record video locally for replays or highlights, and that those recordings are not saved. Nex also says the camera indicator light glows when the camera is active, and that the console includes a magnetic privacy cover. Its software is described as restricted to authorized operating-system versions, apps, and games, with no third-party apps or games installable. Nex states that Playground is kidSAFE+ COPPA certified.

For its own wording on local processing, Nex’s Help Center says the algorithms run on the device and video is not processed in the cloud; the relevant page is How does the Nex Playground track my movements?. The product’s separate explanation of how tracking works without recording video data is on Nex’s privacy page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Nex has not publicly specified
The public technical descriptions do not name the camera sensor specifications, the 18 node positions, the underlying Playground model architecture, or the exact gesture mapping for each game. Nex describes the approach as camera-based computer vision and AI, but that is not enough to establish whether it uses a particular depth sensor, infrared system, or pose-estimation method.
