A player listed Questionable has that official status at the time of the report; the label does not come with a published NBA probability of playing. Because teams update reports during the day, check the latest entry and its reason rather than treating an earlier status as final.
How NBA injury reports work
For the 2025–26 season, teams must report information about injuries, illnesses, other medical conditions, or rest for every NBA game. If a player’s participation may be affected, the team must give a participation status and a specific reason. The NBA’s 2025–26 injury-report policy sets the reporting deadlines and says reports are updated continually throughout the day.
The report table separates the player’s Current Status from the Reason. Reasons can include injury or illness, but the sample also includes non-injury entries such as G League assignments. Neither field should be treated as a complete diagnosis or a full account of a player’s condition. The NBA’s April 6, 2026 report example illustrates the format; its player listings are historical, not current availability.
What the status tags mean—and what they do not
The NBA report sample uses Available, Out, Probable, Questionable, and Doubtful as current-status labels. The 2025–26 policy requires a participation status but does not assign these labels numerical odds. In particular, the official material does not say that Questionable means a specific percentage chance of playing. If you need a forecast, look for a separately attributed statement from the team or a named reporter rather than converting the tag into a probability.

Questionable
Questionable tells you the player is listed under that status in the report at that time. It does not establish that the player is more likely to play than sit, or vice versa, and it is not a guarantee of a later decision.
Game-time decision
“Game-time decision” is common sports phrasing, but it is not a separate field in the official report format examined. The report lists a current status and reason, and the NBA says entries can change during the day. Use the actual listed status when describing the report; attribute “game-time decision” to a team or named reporter when that person or organization uses the phrase.

When NBA injury reports come out
For 2025–26, the standard deadlines are in local time:
- By 5 p.m. the day before the game: teams must designate a status and provide a specific reason for players whose participation may be affected.
- Second game of a back-to-back: that information is due by 1 p.m. on game day.
- Game-day report: teams submit it between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For games tipping at 5 p.m. or earlier, the window is 8–10 a.m.
The listed exception to the game-day report window is the second game of a back-to-back. Since the NBA says reports are updated continually, these times describe reporting deadlines and windows—not the moment a player’s final availability is guaranteed.

How to read an injury report before tip-off
- Confirm the game. Check the report’s game date and matchup so you are looking at the right listing.
- Check when it was updated. A status is a snapshot; an earlier listing may no longer reflect the latest report.
- Read status and reason separately. The status describes participation, while the reason supplies the stated context and may be something other than an injury.
- Check again closer to tip-off. Reports can change during the day, so use the newest available entry.
- Account for the schedule and local time. The relevant deadline depends on whether it is the second game of a back-to-back and, for the game-day window, whether tip-off is at 5 p.m. or earlier.
When comparing two players or updates, compare the actual status, stated reason, report time, and time remaining before tip-off. The official labels alone do not support a precise probability estimate.
