Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a computer that will handle machine learning, video editing, and 3D work, 32 GB of system RAM is a practical starting point. It is not a guarantee that every project will fit: large datasets, complex scenes, 4K editing, or several demanding apps open at once can call for more. Sixteen gigabytes can suit lighter or narrower workloads. For machine learning, also check GPU memory separately; system RAM and VRAM do different jobs.
What do software requirements say?
Published requirements are useful baselines, not promises of smooth performance for every project. They differ by application and version, and actual memory use depends on what you do.
| Software and version | Minimum system memory | Recommended system memory |
|---|---|---|
| Blender; current requirements page | 8 GB | 32 GB |
| Adobe Premiere; version 26 requirements page, updated September 9, 2026 | 8 GB | 16 GB for HD; 32 GB or more for 4K and higher |
| Autodesk Maya 2027; requirements dated March 25, 2026 | 8 GB | 16 GB or more |
These figures are published by Blender, Adobe, and Autodesk. The Blender page does not state a publication date. Adobe’s page lists Premiere versions 26.0, 26.2, 26.3, 26.3.2, and 26.5.
Is 16 GB enough for video editing?
It can be enough for lighter editing, particularly HD projects: Adobe recommends 16 GB for HD in its Premiere version 26 requirements. For 4K and higher, Adobe recommends 32 GB or more. Those are Adobe recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular project will run comfortably; effects, footage, and other open applications affect the load.

What about Apple silicon?
Adobe lists 16 GB of unified memory as its recommendation for Apple silicon. Unified memory is shared by the system and processor rather than being a conventional, separately upgradeable desktop RAM kit. Check the requirements for your specific computer and workflow before buying.
Do you need 32 GB of RAM for Blender or other 3D work?
Blender recommends 32 GB, while Maya 2027 recommends 16 GB or more. These different figures reflect each vendor’s stated recommendation; neither defines a universal amount for all 3D work. More complex scenes and simultaneous use of other demanding applications can increase memory needs.

- Warranty – All Timetec products are high-quality and rigorously tested to meet stringent standards. Backed by Timetec Limited Lifetime Warranty and professional technical support based in the United States.
For a computer that must cover 3D alongside editing and machine learning, 32 GB is the more flexible shared starting point. That is a practical synthesis of the published recommendations, not a benchmark result or a manufacturer specification for every workload.
Does machine learning need more RAM or more VRAM?
It may need both, but for different tasks. System RAM supports host-side work such as handling datasets and preparing data for a model. GPU memory (VRAM) is a separate resource used by GPU workloads. A system with ample RAM can still be constrained by GPU memory, and more VRAM does not replace host memory.

- [UNCOMPROMISED 32GB PERFORMANCE] Supercharge your rig with 32GB (two 16GB modules) of high-speed memory. Designed for power users, this kit effortlessly handles heavy 4K video editing, complex 3D rendering, and lets you play AAA games while streaming without a single stutter.
- [3200MHZ BLAZING FAST SPEED & CL16] Experience ultra-responsive multitasking with speeds up to 3200MHz (PC4-25600) and tight CL16-18-18-42 timings. NOTE: To achieve the advertised 3200MHz speed, you MUST enable the XMP (Intel) or DOCP (AMD) profile in your motherboard's BIOS.
- [AGGRESSIVE ALUMINUM HEATSINK] Keep your system cool under extreme pressure. The premium aluminum heat spreader efficiently dissipates heat from the memory modules, preventing thermal throttling during marathon gaming sessions while adding a sleek, aggressive look to your build.
- [MAXIMUM DUAL-CHANNEL POWER] Installing this matched pair activates dual-channel architecture, doubling your memory bandwidth. This dramatically increases frame rates in CPU-intensive games and cuts down rendering times for creators.
- [BROAD COMPATIBILITY & DIY INSTALL] Engineered to work flawlessly with major Intel and AMD motherboards. Easy push-to-install design for 288-pin desktop slots. (Friendly Reminder: These are Desktop UDIMMs. Not compatible with laptops. Default speed without XMP enabled will be 2133MHz/2400MHz/2666MHz depending on your system).
Account for data loading
PyTorch explains that additional data-loader workers and prefetched batches can use more CPU memory. Increasing worker count is therefore not automatically better: tune workers and prefetching to the available memory and workload. See PyTorch’s data-loading guidance.
Do not generalize from one GPU example
In a 2024 example of fine-tuning a 7B model on consumer hardware, PyTorch describes using an NVIDIA T4 with 16 GB of GPU memory and frames GPU memory as a constraint in that setup. That is a specific example, not a general RAM or VRAM requirement for all machine-learning work. PyTorch’s fine-tuning example and its CUDA memory documentation address GPU memory, not a universal system-RAM target.

How should you choose a RAM capacity?
- 16 GB: A reasonable fit to consider for lighter or narrower tasks, such as HD editing under Adobe’s recommendation or Maya work that fits Autodesk’s stated recommendation. It is less flexible when demanding apps run together.
- 32 GB: A practical mixed-use starting point, aligning with Blender’s recommendation and Adobe’s recommendation for 4K-and-higher Premiere editing.
- More than 32 GB: Consider it if your own workload involves large datasets, complex scenes, demanding projects, or several resource-intensive apps running at once. The cited software requirements do not establish a universal higher threshold.
Before deciding, assess the actual work: editing resolution, 3D scene complexity, machine-learning model and dataset handling, and concurrent applications. Check the relevant software version’s current requirements, along with GPU and storage requirements; sufficient RAM alone cannot address every performance bottleneck.
Check compatibility before upgrading
RAM capacity is only useful if the computer supports the memory you plan to install. Before buying a kit, verify the computer or motherboard specifications, memory generation and form factor, maximum supported capacity, available slots, and whether the memory is upgradeable. Do not assume a desktop kit will fit a laptop or that a laptop’s memory can be replaced.
