YouTube Studio does not have a separately stated fee for 24/7 live streaming in YouTube’s published live-streaming guidance. Studio is the interface for managing a YouTube stream; the costs of keeping one running come from your chosen setup, such as internet, electricity, equipment, or an optional cloud service. There is no single 24/7 total that applies to every channel or country.
What YouTube Studio costs—and what it does not include
YouTube’s documentation explains how to start a live stream and configure an encoder, but does not list a separate YouTube Studio charge for streaming continuously. That is different from saying every way to run a stream is cost-free: equipment, power, connectivity, and third-party encoding or hosting can all have their own costs. Keep those expenses separate rather than treating them as a Studio subscription.
YouTube supports webcam and encoder workflows. An encoder may be software on a computer or standalone hardware; YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to get started, while professional-grade hardware encoders can suit higher-production events. Do you need to pay for an encoder or cloud service?
No. You can use software encoding on a computer or a supported hardware encoder; hardware is an option, not a requirement. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance includes bitrate recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, it recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. A cloud service may be useful when you do not want to keep a local computer running, but it adds a separate bill. For example, Google Cloud’s Live Stream API uses hourly active-channel pricing and has no free usage tier; its channel can remain active for up to a 24-hour session before it may need restarting. Those are terms for that Google Cloud API, not for YouTube Studio. Pricing depends on the cloud configuration, so use the provider’s current pricing page to estimate your own setup rather than multiplying a generic rate. Before starting a 24/7 YouTube stream
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream requirements before scheduling a launch.
- Choose a bitrate using YouTube’s settings for your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then ensure the tested upload connection has the recommended 20% headroom above total stream bitrate.
- Plan for interruptions: YouTube warns that network interruptions can break a stream. Monitor stream health and decide who—or what service—will respond if the encoder or connection stops.
- Review copyright and other YouTube rules for every video in a prerecorded playlist. A continuous stream does not exempt its contents from platform policies.
- Decide how you will handle archives. YouTube’s automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours; a longer continuous session should not be assumed to produce a complete automatic archive.
