There is no single India-wide saving. Estimate the electricity cost you avoid by multiplying your streaming setup’s measured average wall draw by its operating hours, then by the marginal electricity rate on your bill. For continuous operation over 30 days, every 1 W of average draw uses 0.72 kWh; a 100 W setup uses 72 kWh. At an illustrative ₹3.55 per kWh, that is ₹255.60 in energy charges—not a typical-PC measurement or a complete bill estimate.
First, distinguish scheduled videos from a scheduled live stream
Scheduled video publishing
YouTube scheduled publishing makes a video public at a chosen date, time, and time zone. Once you have uploaded the video, your local encoder can be off; the scheduled video is not a continuous live channel.
Scheduled live streaming
A scheduled live event can be promoted in advance, but an encoder must still send a live feed when the event begins. A playlist of ordinary published videos does not, by itself, create a continuous live stream.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
So the saving depends on what you mean by “scheduling a playlist.” If ordinary scheduled uploads meet your audience’s needs, you can avoid the local equipment electricity used to encode a continuous stream. If your channel must remain live 24/7, compare local encoding with a hosted stream; hosting moves the encoder load off your premises but adds a service fee and different operating trade-offs.

Calculate the electricity cost you can avoid
Use measured average power, not the power-supply label
Measure the complete setup’s average draw at the wall during representative streaming. A computer power-supply label gives its rated capacity, not its actual average consumption. A plug-in electricity usage monitor can help measure input. Include only equipment that will actually stop drawing power when you change workflows—for example, a monitor, UPS, router, or capture device only if you switch it off or otherwise reduce its power use.
Apply the formula for your schedule
Energy (kWh) = average wall draw (W) × hours per day × days ÷ 1,000.
For a full 24/7 month of 30 days, this simplifies to watts × 0.72 = kWh. Multiply the resulting kWh by the marginal per-unit charge that applies to your household to estimate avoided energy charges.

| Continuous average wall draw | Energy in 30 days | At illustrative ₹3.55/kWh |
|---|---|---|
| 20 W | 14.4 kWh | ₹51.12 |
| 40 W | 28.8 kWh | ₹102.24 |
| 60 W | 43.2 kWh | ₹153.36 |
| 100 W | 72 kWh | ₹255.60 |
These wattages are arithmetic scenarios, not typical device readings or tested setups. The ₹3.55/kWh rate is an illustration only: the table assumes each added unit is billed at that rate and does not include fixed charges, duties, subsidies, or other bill items. Substitute your measured draw and applicable marginal charge.
Why your Indian electricity rate may differ
India does not have one household electricity rate for this calculation. State electricity regulators determine retail tariffs, and applicable subsidies can affect what a household pays. The Central Electricity Authority publishes state- and category-specific schedules; check your local DISCOM’s current schedule and your bill to identify the relevant marginal charge.
Tariff slabs and time of use can also matter. The official Lakshadweep domestic schedule for FY 2026–27, for example, uses slab-based energy charges. A Ministry of Power explainer published in 2023 described designated solar-hour tariffs as 10–20% below normal and peak-hour tariffs as 10–20% above normal. Those are framework ranges, not a guarantee of the hours or rates applying to your home today; local tariff implementation and smart-meter status matter.

Choose the workflow that fits the channel
Use scheduled uploads if a live presence is not essential
For published videos, schedule uploads in YouTube Studio and leave the encoder off after each upload. This can reduce local equipment electricity, but it does not preserve a continuous live channel. Home internet charges usually remain and should not be counted as electricity savings.
Keep encoding locally if you need a live feed and accept the operating cost
A local computer or encoder can keep sending a feed, but its electricity use depends on the complete setup and workload. Measure it rather than assuming a standard PC draw. Also consider the value of continuous live presence: YouTube advises creators to weigh the monetary cost of producing a live stream against its viewership and revenue.
Use cloud hosting when continuous playback matters but local uptime does not
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos or a playlist: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs without your computer or home connection staying on, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; storage is 10 GB per slot, pooled across active slots.

- Decide whether viewers need a continuous live channel or whether scheduled published videos are sufficient.
- Measure average wall draw during the actual streaming workload and note which equipment will genuinely be switched off.
- Use your own operating hours, not a full 24-hour day, if the encoder runs only part-time.
- Find the applicable marginal energy charge on your bill or current DISCOM schedule; do not substitute a national average.
- Compare estimated electricity savings with any hosted-service fee, setup and monitoring effort, and the consequences of interruptions.
- Consider the stream’s audience and revenue purpose as well as its cost. Scheduled uploads may save local power but do not reproduce a continuous live presence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does scheduling a YouTube video automatically turn it into a live stream?
No. Scheduled publishing makes an uploaded video public at a selected time. A live event still needs an encoder to send a feed.
Can I count my home internet plan as part of the electricity saving?
No. A fixed internet plan charge generally does not disappear when the local encoder is off; this calculation covers avoided electricity use.
