As of October 7, 2026, Order of the Sinking Star has not launched, so there is no verified typical time to finish it. Arc Games advertises “hundreds of hours of gameplay,” and game director Jonathan Blow was reported to estimate around 500 hours for a typical completionist—but he stressed that the figure was not a promise. That is a completionist estimate, not a main-story playtime.
How long is Order of the Sinking Star?
No reliable ordinary-player completion time is available before the scheduled October 8, 2026 launch. Arc Games describes the game as offering “hundreds of hours of gameplay,” which signals the intended scale but is promotional language, not a measured playthrough result. Arc Games’ announcement uses that phrase to describe the challenge.

PC Gamer reported that Blow estimated a typical completionist might spend around 500 hours, while explicitly qualifying the estimate: “This is not a promise of any kind.” Treat 500 hours as an ambitious estimate for extensive completionist exploration—not as the expected time to finish the main progression. The report also says players can reach the endgame without exploring every part of the overworld, but it gives no hour estimate for that more limited route. PC Gamer’s interview is the source for both points.

What kind of game is it?
Steam describes Order of the Sinking Star as a single-player puzzle adventure built around nonlinear exploration, more than one thousand interconnected handcrafted puzzles, and four distinct worlds. Each world has its own characters and mechanics, with systems combining as the worlds meet. The intended rhythm is to explore at your own pace and return to challenges, rather than follow a short, strictly linear sequence. The Steam listing provides the official description.

- Build whatever you can imagine in your own infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
That scope makes the completionist estimate plausible as a statement of ambition, but it does not tell you how long your own playthrough will take. The game had no user reviews on Steam as of October 7, 2026, so there was not yet a player consensus or review-based assessment of its length or value.
Is it worth the $29.99 price?
The announced US launch price is $29.99. Whether that is worthwhile depends less on a promised number of hours—which does not exist—than on whether you want a large, open-ended puzzle challenge. The official September 24, 2026 announcement gives the US price; it does not establish local storefront pricing or later discounts.

- It may suit you if you enjoy exploring interconnected puzzle systems, revisiting difficult challenges, and choosing your own pace. The advertised scale could offer substantial play for that kind of player.
- Wait for player data if you want a predictable main-story length, need to know the actual time-to-finish before buying, or are judging value by verified hours played. There are no measured completion-time data or post-launch player reviews yet.
- Check your platform and region before deciding: the announced platforms are Steam/Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, while the cited $29.99 price is specifically the US launch price. The game is reported as Steam Deck Verified in a Steam community announcement. The release announcement lists platforms and timing; the Steam Deck announcement reports verification status.
The September 24 announcement also described launch bundles with Mewgenics and Animal Well at 10% off, plus a game-and-soundtrack bundle; the soundtrack was also to be sold separately. These were announced offers, not evidence of current prices or availability after launch. See the official bundle announcement.
When does it launch, and where can you play?
At the time of this article, the game is scheduled to launch October 8, 2026, on Steam/Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5; some regions see October 9. It has not launched as of October 7, so the playtime figures remain estimates rather than player results. Official materials and the release announcement give the date and platform details.
