Why Capcom’s 19-hour average is longer than the main-story estimate
The figures measure different things, so they should not be treated as competing answers to the same question. Capcom reports a worldwide first-playthrough average and specifies that its timing includes restarts, cutscenes, and pauses. The game’s results-screen time excludes those items, so it can be shorter than the time a player actually spent in the session.

By contrast, the 11-hour main-story figure is a HowLongToBeat category shown by IsThereAnyDeal. It is a user-submitted estimate, and its timer methodology is not established here as equivalent to Capcom’s. The gap does not mean one figure is necessarily wrong: one is an official average with a stated inclusive timer, while the other is a third-party category estimate.

For a completionist run, the available reference points are 25 hours or more from GameSpot and 32 hours in the HowLongToBeat completionist category displayed by IsThereAnyDeal. Neither is an official Capcom completionist measurement, and the sources use different labels: GameSpot describes 100% completion, while HowLongToBeat labels a completionist category. Treat them as estimates, not as a precise promise of how long every player will need.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Players aiming only to finish the story can use the 11-hour HowLongToBeat estimate as a rough third-party reference. The 14-hour main-story-plus-sides category offers a separate guide if you plan to take on side content as well. Capcom’s 19-hour-14-minute average remains useful for understanding a broader first-playthrough session, but it is not a like-for-like substitute for those narrower categories.
Which playtime should you use?
- Planning a typical first run: use Capcom’s 19 hours and 14 minutes as the strongest official reference, remembering that its figure counts pauses, restarts, and cutscenes.
- Planning only the main story or story plus side content: use the 11-hour or 14-hour HowLongToBeat categories as rough, user-submitted estimates.
- Planning for 100% or completionist play: allow at least 25 hours based on GameSpot’s estimate, with 32 hours as another third-party completionist reference.
Capcom identified Resident Evil Requiem as the ninth main installment and scheduled its release for February 27, 2026, in its June 9, 2025 announcement.
