In Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, the Genesis Configuration is both a combat ability source and an environmental puzzle tool. The comparison to a “Zelda-style” weapon captures that dual use—not a confirmed influence: official descriptions say the box can burn enemies, change shape to open gates, and manipulate the Labyrinth’s environment.
What the Genesis Configuration does
The box has two distinct gameplay roles. In combat, it channels offensive power; outside combat, it interacts with the environment to help Aidan find a way through the Labyrinth. Saber describes the game as combining melee and ranged weapons with special abilities powered by the box.
| Role | Officially described example |
|---|---|
| Combat | Channeling power from the box to set enemies on fire. |
| Environmental puzzles | Rotating a giant wheel to realign narrow walkways, and changing the box’s shape to open gates after Aidan retrieves missing statue pieces. |
These examples make the “weapon” comparison more specific: the box is not described as simply another firearm or melee weapon. Its offensive use sits alongside puzzle interactions that change routes through the environment.
How the Labyrinth puzzles fit in
The puzzle design uses the setting itself. PlayStation’s feature describes walkways that must be realigned and gates that respond to the box’s changing shape. It also says Aidan must follow clues and contend with the Labyrinth’s unusual spatial logic. The box is therefore one part of progression, not a substitute for every puzzle-solving step.

The Labyrinth is intertwined with the real world, according to assistant game director Vid Rajin in PlayStation.Blog. That premise helps explain why solving a puzzle can mean manipulating the space around Aidan rather than only finding a key or opening a conventional lock.
It remains a survival-horror game
The Genesis Configuration’s unusual role does not replace familiar survival-horror systems. PlayStation’s feature also describes firearms and other weapons, lock and safe puzzles, crafting resources, ammunition, upgrades, and inventory management. The available official descriptions establish that these systems coexist with the box’s special abilities; they do not provide enough detail to assess their balance or moment-to-moment feel.

Story, release date, and estimated length
Hellraiser: Revival is a single-player, story-driven survival-horror action game starring Aidan, who uses the Genesis Configuration in an attempt to help Sunny escape the Labyrinth. Saber announced the game in July 2025 and said Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead. Xbox Wire says the game is inspired by the first two films, but its plot is not directly connected to them.
As of October 7, 2026, Saber’s official FAQ schedules the game for October 8, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. The FAQ estimates around 8–12 hours of gameplay; PlayStation’s August 2026 feature gives the same campaign range and says duration depends on difficulty and skill. Treat that as a developer estimate, not a measured playtime guarantee.
