How many animal species are in GTA 6?
TechRadar’s 2026 coverage of a Game Informer cover story reports more than 170 animal species in GTA 6, including over 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals. What habitats will GTA 6’s animals live in?
TechRadar attributes the habitat description to Michael Kane, Rockstar’s vice president of dynamic art. As reported by TechRadar, Kane said: “Florida has a diverse animal ecosystem that we wanted to faithfully include across the different biomes in Leonida – urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades.”
This describes the settings and types of habitat Rockstar intends to represent; it does not specify how animals move between them or respond to the player.

How does animal behavior work in GTA 6?
The available sources do not explain the wildlife AI routines. They do not verify animal schedules, weather-linked behavior, or a simulated ecosystem in which species interact dynamically. Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 extended look is described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, but its page does not provide a wildlife-system specification. A scene featuring an animal can show what appears in the game without establishing the rules behind its behavior.
Can you pet animals in GTA 6?
PC Gamer’s extended-look breakdown mentions dog petting as a gameplay detail. That supports a limited claim about dogs; it does not establish that every animal can be petted or interacted with in the same way. Are there predators and prey?
The available sources do not verify detailed predator-prey behavior or specific animal interactions. Until Rockstar documents or clearly demonstrates those systems, claims that wildlife hunts, flees, or reacts to other species in particular ways should be treated as unconfirmed—not inferred from the species count, a presented scene, or behavior in another game.
