Choosing Elyos or Asmodian in AION 2 sets your character’s faction identity, starting region, and side in faction-based PvP—but it does not currently make one faction an established winner for PvE or progression. Since March 11, 2026, the game has allowed cross-faction PvE parties, while PvP formats and matchmaking have changed over time. Choose based on the side and community you prefer, and check current official notices for live rules and server pairings.
What does faction choice determine?
AION 2 offers two player factions: Elyos and Asmodian. NCSOFT says they begin in separate regions, and describes the story as developing toward large-scale Realm-vs-Realm conflict. The game is set 200 years after the original AION, so older-game rules and assumptions should not be treated as proof of how AION 2 works today. NCSOFT’s overview of AION 2’s core content establishes the setting and broad faction premise.
In practical terms, your choice determines your character’s faction identity and the side you represent when a mode uses faction-based combat. The official material cited here does not establish that one faction levels faster, has better rewards, or holds a lasting population or combat advantage.
How does faction choice affect PvP?
Faction matters directly in some PvP, but the exact opponents and format depend on the mode and current rules. In its March 25, 2026 update, NCSOFT introduced Chaotic Abyss as faction-based battles between West and East Forces. That update also separated PvP and PvE damage calculations, showing that combat balance can be adjusted differently across the two contexts. These are patch-specific details, not a guarantee that every current mode or balance rule remains unchanged. Read NCSOFT’s Chaotic Abyss and combat update notice.

Matching can change who you fight
Official PURPLE Lounge guidance for the global-launch server lineup says Elyos and Asmodians live on separate servers, with each Elyos server paired with an Asmodian server for a limited time. For cross-faction modes such as Spacetime Rifts and the Abyss, opponents came from the matched server. Because the pairing is described as time-limited and tied to that lineup, it should not be used as a permanent server map. See the official global-launch server and matchmaking guidance.
Nor should you assume that every Abyss match is always Elyos versus Asmodian. NCSOFT’s February 23, 2026 update described an Abyss of Chaos format that could match Elyos against Elyos or Asmodians against Asmodians. The notice also said PvP ranking-point loss had been reduced to encourage participation. Together, these dated examples show that faction and server matching can vary by mode and update. There is no evidence-based faction tier list here
NCSOFT’s Season 2 material described changes to Abyss encounters and Artifact Siege, including faction-wide buffs intended to help address power disparities. That is evidence that rules and balancing can change; it is not a reliable basis for declaring Elyos or Asmodian the stronger current choice. See the Season 2 update details.
Can Elyos and Asmodians play PvE together?
Yes, according to NCSOFT’s March 11, 2026 update: from that date, Elyos and Asmodians could form cross-faction parties for PvE dungeons and party play. The notice also described limited cross-faction communication in those settings. Because this is a patch-dependent rule, check current official notices if you are organizing a group after a later update. Read the cross-faction PvE announcement.

AION 2’s official notices document a range of PvE content and systems, including Expedition dungeons, Nightmare bosses, Raids, Ascension Trials, and the Soul Fuse system. Their presence illustrates that PvE content and progression systems evolve, but the cited announcements do not establish faction-exclusive access or a faction-based PvE advantage. NCSOFT’s February 11 update notice covers the Cradle of Nihility Expedition and Soul Fuse, while the Season 2 notice describes other content.
Does faction affect progression?
The official material available for this comparison does not settle whether the current global build has faction-exclusive skills, rewards, lasting quest consequences, or progression access restrictions. That is not the same as proof that the factions are mechanically identical; it means a progression advantage for either side is unconfirmed by the cited sources.

NCSOFT has documented systems relevant to earning and spending currency, including Kina (Bound) from quests and Duty rewards, NPC shops, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds. Regular Kina remains obtainable through player trading, monster hunting, and Odyle Energy Cubes, according to its March 25, 2026 notice. Those details describe progression systems, not a difference between Elyos and Asmodian. Consult the update notice for the currency details and other changes.

- Pick the faction identity and starting experience you prefer. Separate starting regions are documented; a current gameplay advantage from either region is not.
- If PvP is your priority, choose the side you want to represent. Expect mode formats, balance, and server matching to be update-sensitive rather than fixed.
- If you mainly play PvE, coordinate with your group. Cross-faction PvE parties were enabled in the March 11, 2026 update, but confirm that the rule still applies in the live version.
- Do not choose based on an assumed progression edge. The cited official material does not establish one.
If server pairing matters to your decision, use current NCSOFT or PURPLE Lounge notices rather than relying on an old lineup. No population statistic or faction win-rate figure in the official material cited here supports recommending one side as objectively best.
