EPFO’s digital services use your Universal Account Number (UAN) to connect you with member account tools such as passbook access, KYC updates, and eligible claim filing. The current EPFO notice directs members to UMANG for Aadhaar face-authenticated UAN allotment or activation; the EPFO member portal is used for member services after that. Claim eligibility depends on your recorded service and account details, so check the live official portal before submitting.
What the UAN, UMANG, and EPFO portal each do
The UAN is the member identifier used to access EPFO’s online services. EPFO’s current member interface accepts a UAN and password for login, but its notice says direct UAN allotment and activation through that portal have been discontinued.
For allotment or activation, EPFO directs members to use Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through UMANG. EPFO’s 2025 circular describes installing UMANG and Aadhaar Face RD, selecting the UAN service, and following the Aadhaar-linked OTP and face-verification prompts. App labels can change, so follow the current instructions in the official app. After activation, EPFO lists services including passbook viewing, KYC updates, and claim submission.

These routes are not interchangeable for every task: use UMANG for the face-authenticated activation route and the relevant EPFO service for account or claim tasks. EPFO’s 2025 circular describes the activation method.

What you can do online
EPFO materials identify several member tasks that can be handled digitally. The Employees Information Booklet describes passbook access through the member portal and says eligible withdrawal, advance, and pension claims may be filed through the Member Portal or UMANG. The passbook and claim-status service provides those account tools.
- View your EPF passbook: Check recorded account contributions and related passbook information through the official passbook service.
- Update KYC and nomination details: EPFO lists KYC updates and nominations among member digital-service functions.
- Submit eligible claims: Claim availability depends on the claim type and the member’s account and service records.
- Check claim status: Use EPFO’s official status service rather than relying on messages or calls claiming to report progress.
What the main claim forms mean

How to submit and track a claim
- Open an official EPFO route: Sign in to the member portal or use the relevant UMANG service, completing the identity checks shown for that task.
- Check your member record: Confirm that your UAN profile, service details, and required KYC information are recorded correctly before selecting a claim.
- Select the claim type: Choose the eligible claim and complete the on-screen verification and submission steps.
- Keep the acknowledgement: Save the acknowledgement or reference details shown after submission.
- Monitor status: Use EPFO’s official passbook and claim-status service to check progress.
Eligibility details to verify before filing
Eligibility is claim- and account-specific. EPFO’s online claim FAQ, published in 2017, lists an activated UAN, a working mobile number for activation, Aadhaar seeded in EPFO with OTP-based UIDAI e-KYC, and a bank account with IFSC seeded in EPFO among the conditions for online claims. It also says PAN should be seeded for final-settlement claims when service is under five years.
That older FAQ gives additional published guidance for individual forms: for Form 19, it lists joining and exit dates on record, no current employment in a covered establishment, and filing no earlier than two months after leaving. For an online Form 10C pension withdrawal benefit claim, it gives a service-duration requirement of more than six months and less than 9.5 years. These are conditions stated in a 2017 FAQ, not confirmation of current rules. Check the live EPFO portal for the current requirements that apply to your claim and account.

Processing times and changing portal notices
There is no reliable fixed settlement time established here for an individual claim. EPFO’s member interface has displayed a notice that services are being brought online in phases after database consolidation and that claims or service requests may take longer than usual during an initial two-week stabilization period with additional validation. Because that is a temporary notice, check whether it appears on the live portal rather than treating it as a standing timeline or relying on an older estimate.

EPFO warns members about theft of UAN credentials. Its member interface states: “EPFO never requests personal information such as Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details over the phone.” EPFO also says it does not ask members to deposit money. Reach the service through the official EPFO domain or official UMANG app, and do not share your password, OTP, Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details with unsolicited callers or message senders claiming to represent EPFO.
