Samsung cites a redesigned support structure and an IP48 rating; neither is a guarantee of a particular lifespan or protection from every kind of damage. Check between the screens before folding, keep hard or sharp objects away from the inner display, and leave its factory-installed protector in place.
What Samsung’s durability claims mean
Samsung says the Fold8 uses “Flex Titanium technology” in a redesigned display support structure intended to protect the ultra-thin OLED panel while preserving its flexibility. Samsung also says the design improves durability and reduces crease visibility. These are manufacturer claims, not independent long-term reliability measurements.
Samsung reports conducting more than 100 reliability validation tests covering drops, repeated folding, pressure, moisture, and debris. That is Samsung’s reported test count, not a published failure rate, public pass rate, or estimate of how many years a Fold8 will last. The cited material does not establish an expected service life or an independently verified cycle-life result.
Samsung’s Malaysia product page lists an IP48 rating, an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover screen. These specifications describe protection features, not immunity from damage. The cover screen and frame are different from the flexible main display, and protection terms may vary by market. Check the specifications and care instructions for your country.

How to care for the folding screen
Check the gap before folding
Before closing the phone, look for cards, coins, keys, grit, or anything else between the display halves. An object caught inside can scratch or puncture the main screen. Fold and unfold normally, without forcing the hinge, and do not fold the phone backwards.
Protect the flexible inner display
- Keep fingernails, pens, and other hard or sharp objects off the main screen. Excessive pressure can scratch or puncture it.
- Leave the factory-installed inner screen protector in place. Samsung says it is designed to withstand folding and unfolding and to help guard against scratches and debris.
- Do not attach adhesive accessories to the main screen. If the protector lifts or needs replacing, contact an authorized Samsung service center rather than removing it yourself.
Samsung says protector replacement at an authorized service center may incur a cost. User or unauthorized removal can cause damage excluded from its standard limited warranty.

Keep water and particles away
Do not treat IP48 as permission to expose the phone to every wet or dusty setting. Samsung’s foldable-care guidance warns against letting liquids or particles enter the device and advises against beach or pool use for listed IP48 foldables. Because general support guidance can lag a new launch, check the Fold8-specific instructions for your market.
Choose a case for exterior protection
A Fold8-compatible case can help protect the exterior, but it cannot guarantee protection for the inner display. Confirm the exact model, case thickness, hinge coverage, and that the design does not interfere with folding. A case that covers the hinge may offer a different trade-off from a slimmer design that leaves it exposed.

What to do if the protector or phone needs service
For a lifting or damaged inner protector, use an authorized Samsung service center. For other issues, Samsung says the “Warranty and care” menu in One UI 9 supports the Fold8 and can show warranty-status information, run diagnostics, book repairs, and provide a route to explore Samsung Care+.
Availability, plan coverage, fees, repair estimates, and warranty terms depend on country, plan, and device. Samsung’s Malaysia product page describes warranty repair for eligible defects and Care+ as a possible route for accidental damage, but those local terms should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. Check your Samsung account and regional terms before relying on coverage or a price.
