DeVry says applicants, current students and alumni can use a 24/7 AI-powered agent through their account portal, while students also have a separate AI Learning Assistant for questions inside courses. These tools sit alongside admissions representatives, advisors, tutoring and other human services. The available descriptions do not establish that the AI agent makes admissions or academic decisions or completes tasks on a student’s behalf.
What AI support does DeVry describe?
DeVry’s January 21, 2026 announcement describes two distinct AI tools: an account-portal agent for applicants, students and alumni, and an AI Learning Assistant embedded in courses. DeVry says both provide assistance around the clock, but it does not specify the agent’s technical design, account permissions, safeguards or escalation process. The word “agent” alone does not establish that it can take actions in an account.
| Tool | Who it is for | What DeVry says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Account-portal AI agent | Applicants, students and alumni | Provides on-demand assistance through the account portal, 24 hours a day. Specific tasks are not stated by DeVry’s January 2026 announcement. |
| AI Learning Assistant | Students taking courses | Provides real-time conversational support within courses, 24 hours a day. DeVry says it handles over 90% of routine student questions; the announcement does not provide a measurement period, sample size or question taxonomy. |
DeVry describes these tools as part of a broader support system, not as replacements for people. Its announcement says the portal agent and an advisor can work alongside one another.
How can the portal agent help applicants?
DeVry’s admissions process is described as three steps: apply online, connect with an admissions representative, and get ready to create a schedule. After an application, DeVry says an admissions representative contacts the applicant. Undergraduate applicants may receive help securing transcripts, transferring qualifying credits, connecting with a student finance professional and setting up a Career Services advisor. Applicants also receive a DeVry ID for a self-directed portal to track the admissions process.

The AI agent is described as available to applicants through that portal, but DeVry does not say it completes these admissions steps or replaces the representative. Treat it as another route to on-demand assistance while the admissions process continues through the support channels DeVry describes.
What support is available to current students?
For enrolled learners, the course assistant is the most directly academic AI tool in DeVry’s description: it answers routine questions conversationally within courses. Other supports remain human-led or are described separately from the student-facing agent.
- Student Support Advisors: DeVry says an advisor is assigned after admission and can help with academic and financial advising, career plans, study plans and connections to university resources.
- Academic and administrative help: DeVry lists advising for course difficulties and program requirements, along with help for billing, registration and financial-aid processes.
- Tutoring and student assistance: The university lists tutoring and StudentLinc counseling resources.
- Career and financial guidance: Students can access career planning and financial assistance resources.
DeVry also describes Inspire for Advisors, a predictive-analytics technology that signals when a student may be challenged so advisors can reach out proactively. This is an advisor-support tool, not the same thing as the portal agent or course assistant.
What do DeVry’s outcome figures show—and not show?
DeVry’s January 2026 announcement says 80% of learners who received targeted outreach and used tutoring saw an improved assignment grade. It also says 96% of those learners were “successful,” which DeVry defines as graduating or persisting. The announcement provides no sample size or measurement period for either figure, and attributes the outcomes to targeted outreach and tutoring together—not to AI alone. The figures are DeVry-published claims, not independently validated results in the cited material.

DeVry’s January 2026 announcement says it plans to embed AI literacy and skill-building in every course by the end of 2026. It describes DeVryAI Catalyst as a foundational curriculum for undergraduate students, with the goal of helping learners apply AI responsibly in their fields. Because the stated deadline is in the future relative to the announcement, this is a commitment, not evidence that every course already includes the curriculum.
For professional learners, DeVry’s 2026 DeVryPro article describes courses on generative and agentic AI guided by real-time AI learning coaches. The listed applications include everyday AI tasks, automation, application development, data analysis and organizational AI leadership. These are professional-learning offerings; the source does not establish that they are part of every degree program.

DeVry also describes earlier AI work in a faculty-authored 2024 overview: adoption of AI-powered adaptive learning platforms in math courses beginning in 2018, an AI Lab established in 2023, and chatbots used in an AI course. The overview says adaptive platforms adjust content and difficulty based on student performance. These dated examples do not establish the configuration of every current course.

DeVry’s undergraduate admissions requirements say applicants to online coursework need to meet general admission requirements and own or have off-site access to a PC or laptop. Hardware and software needs can depend on the program or location, so check the requirements for the specific course of study rather than assuming one device specification applies to everyone. DeVry’s student-resources page also lists HP and Microsoft technology discounts, but does not establish current eligibility or offer terms.
What is not established about DeVry’s AI agent?
The cited DeVry materials do not identify the agent’s vendor or underlying model, explain its privacy controls or escalation rules, document a controlled study of its impact, or specify that it can register students, make advising decisions or complete admissions actions. DeVry’s description supports calling it an on-demand assistance tool; claims about autonomous decisions or account actions would go beyond what the university has stated.
