First identify which “header” you want to remove. If you mean the email’s sender, recipients, subject, and date, Gmail and Outlook’s standard print instructions do not document a universal switch to hide those details. The reliable workaround is to copy only the message body into a document and print it. If you mean a browser-added URL or date at the top or bottom of the page, turn off Headers and footers in the browser’s print dialog instead.
Which email header do you want to remove?
- Visible email details: From, To, Subject, and date shown with the message. Copy only the body into a document when these must be omitted.
- Technical message headers: Routing and delivery metadata used to investigate an email. In Gmail, Show original opens these details; it is not a print setting. See Google’s instructions for viewing full headers.
- Browser print headers and footers: Items such as a page URL, title, date, or page number added by the browser. Disable Headers and footers in the browser print dialog. This does not hide the email’s own From, To, Subject, or date.
Print from Gmail on a computer
- Open the email.
- To print that message, select More at the top right of the message, then Print. To print the full conversation, open it and select Print all.
- Check the preview. Google’s documented workflow does not include a control for hiding the ordinary email details. If you need a body-only printout, copy the body into a document and print the document. See Google’s Gmail printing instructions.
Gmail confidential mode can prevent printing the message text and attachments, so printing may be unavailable for those messages. Google’s instructions describe this limitation.
Print from Outlook
Outlook has distinct interfaces for new Outlook, classic Outlook, and Outlook on the web. Microsoft’s general workflow is to select a message and use Print; classic Outlook also offers print styles and Page Setup controls for fonts and page properties. Available options depend on the version, so inspect the preview before printing. See Microsoft’s Outlook printing guidance.
Print only selected content in a browser
Microsoft documents this workaround for printing a portion of a message:

#1 Best Overall
- Open the message and choose View in Browser from the Move actions.
- In the browser window, select the text or content you want to print.
- Open the browser’s print dialog, choose Selection under Page Range, and print.
This prints the selected content rather than the entire message. See Microsoft’s instructions for printing part of an email. For repeatable layouts, classic Outlook’s custom print-style options may be worth checking, but do not assume they are available in new Outlook or Outlook on the web.

Apple’s iCloud Mail guidance explains how to show or hide all headers while viewing a message, but it does not establish that this display setting removes the ordinary message details from a printout. For a body-only copy, paste just the message text into a document and check its print preview. See Apple’s iCloud Mail header guidance.

Check the preview before printing
- Confirm whether the preview includes one message or the whole conversation; Gmail provides separate print actions for those cases.
- Check that the email details you wanted removed are absent. Turning off browser headers and footers removes browser-generated page information, not message details.
- For long emails or selected text, inspect page breaks and confirm that the content you need has not been clipped.
- If printing to PDF, use the same preview checks; the distinction between email details and browser-generated headers still applies.
