A custom Google Sheets tracker built with Gemini’s Build feature—and then presented as a dashboard with Gemini Canvas—can make habits feel like quests with XP and levels. It is a do-it-yourself workflow, not a standalone Google RPG app, and the account describing it is one person’s experience rather than proof that gamification improves motivation for everyone.
What the “Google RPG” feature actually is
The title refers to combining Google Sheets with Gemini features, not enabling a hidden game mode in Google Tasks or installing an official Google RPG product. In the reported workflow, Gemini Build helped create and calculate a habit tracker in Sheets; Gemini Canvas then turned the tracker’s information into an interactive character-style dashboard. Google describes Sheets as a spreadsheet product, while its task-management tools are separate services (Google Sheets).
How the reported tracker was set up
The account describes prompting Build to create a daily tracker for 12 habits grouped into six categories. Each habit received an XP value, with a checkbox for each day of the week. The requested calculations covered total XP as well as XP by category and habit, levels, and progress. Examples included push-ups, reading five pages, reflecting, and learning something new.

After that, the author used Canvas to present the results as a game-like dashboard. It displayed a character level, total XP, progress toward the next level, and six category cards with their own levels and progress bars. The described setup also included a daily quest checklist and controls to add, edit, delete, or reset habits. These are features of the author’s reported custom build—not independently verified capabilities guaranteed in every account or prompt.

What made it feel different—and what did not
The appeal is the visible feedback loop: a small task can earn XP, and accumulated progress appears as levels and bars. That framing may suit someone who enjoys tracking progress. The author reported having 410 XP after three days, but that is a snapshot of one personal tracker, not evidence that the system improves task completion or motivation.
There is also a trade-off: a tracker with many habits, categories, checkboxes, and formulas takes attention to maintain. In the reported example, every level used the same XP threshold; the author intended to adjust it. That is a design choice in this particular tracker, not a general limitation of Sheets or Gemini. If maintaining the game system becomes another chore, a shorter checklist may be more useful.

Access and phone-use caveats
The author said this workflow required a paid Google AI plan and was built in Sheets on a desktop. Those details describe that person’s access at the time, not universal eligibility rules: Google’s plan names, feature access, and availability can change. Check Google’s current account and feature eligibility before relying on Build or Canvas.
The author also reported that the Canvas dashboard could not be viewed on a mobile device, which made it less convenient for checking habits throughout the day. That limitation matters if you want to mark tasks as they happen rather than update the tracker later. The account does not establish that every user will encounter the same device behavior.

When Google Tasks is a better fit
If you want to capture and organize ordinary tasks rather than build a game-like progress system, Google Tasks is a separate official option. Google says it supports task details and subtasks, due dates, and notifications, and syncs across devices. Tasks can be accessed through Google products including Calendar, Gmail, Chat, and Drive; an organization’s administrator may control access for work or school accounts (Google Tasks Help; Google Tasks Help: availability and access).
Google’s published capacity limits are up to 100,000 tasks overall and up to 20,000 uncompleted tasks in any one list (Google Tasks Help). Those limits concern Google Tasks, not the custom Sheets-and-Canvas dashboard. Google’s 2022 announcement also described creating tasks from Gmail, Chat, and Calendar, and organizing them with lists and stars; it does not describe RPG mechanics (Google’s 2022 Tasks announcement).

- Choose Google Tasks if you mainly need a conventional checklist with due dates, notifications, subtasks, and access across Google products.
