Neither Hostinger nor Contabo is universally better for VPS hosting. Contabo stands out for the advertised resources and daily off-server backups on its Cloud VPS plans; Hostinger emphasizes 1 Gbps networking, weekly automatic backups, manual snapshots, and a choice of deployment regions. The available plan and price information does not establish a like-for-like winner, so compare the exact configuration, term cost, renewal price, location, and administration you are prepared to handle.
Hostinger vs Contabo at a glance
| Decision factor | Contabo | Hostinger |
|---|---|---|
| What the cited pages emphasize | Cloud VPS resources, snapshots, daily off-server Auto Backup, and traffic subject to fair use. | KVM VPS, AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, 1 Gbps networking, weekly automatic backups, manual snapshots, and deployment locations. |
| Example price shown | Cloud VPS 4 is listed at $5.28 per month for a 24-month term on Contabo’s US pricing page. The plan lists 4 vCPU cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, and a 200 Mbit/s port. Check Contabo’s current VPS pricing. | The official VPS page’s surfaced range is $6.49–$25.99 per month, but the available listing does not establish an equivalent configuration and term for direct comparison. Check Hostinger’s current VPS plans. |
| Backups | Daily off-server Auto Backup and snapshots are described on the product page. | Weekly automatic backups and manual snapshots are described for VPS. |
| Network and traffic | Plan-dependent port speeds; traffic is described as unlimited subject to fair use. | 1 Gbps networking is listed across VPS plans. This does not guarantee an application’s end-to-end speed. |
| Locations | Confirm availability for the specific plan and location at order time. | Locations are described across North America, Europe, Asia, and South America; select a location at deployment. |
| Uptime statement | Contabo advertises 99.9% uptime for VPS. | Hostinger describes a 99.9% uptime SLA for business websites; confirm whether its terms apply to the VPS plan you intend to buy. |
These are provider descriptions, not the results of a common independent benchmark. They do not prove that one service is faster or more reliable than the other.
Which is cheaper: Hostinger or Contabo VPS?
Contabo’s US pricing page lists Cloud VPS 4 at $5.28 per month on a 24-month term. That figure is tied to the listed plan and commitment; it is not a universal price for Contabo or a like-for-like comparison with Hostinger. Hostinger’s official VPS page shows a $6.49–$25.99 monthly range, but the available listing does not pair a particular plan with the same resources and term.
Before deciding on price, compare the same currency and billing period, the total due upfront, taxes, included backup features, and the renewal amount. Rates and plan availability can vary by market and change over time. Hostinger says customers can find their personal renewal amount in hPanel under Billing → Subscriptions. See its renewal price instructions.

Compare resources and networking against your workload
Contabo: advertised resources and plan-dependent ports
Contabo’s Cloud VPS 4 listing includes 4 vCPU cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, and a 200 Mbit/s port. Its product pages position Cloud VPS for uses such as websites and CMSs, self-hosted email or file servers, backups and storage, and development environments. Contabo also lists other VPS families and higher tiers, so check the exact SKU rather than assuming every Contabo VPS has the Cloud VPS 4 specifications.
Contabo labels traffic “Unlimited Traffic,” but its pricing page qualifies that offer: exceptionally high or disruptive use may be throttled at Contabo’s discretion. The provider lists port speeds from 200 Mbit/s up to 1 Gbit/s across the plans shown. A port speed is not a promise of sustained throughput for every workload.
Rank #2
Hostinger: KVM, NVMe, and 1 Gbps networking
Hostinger describes its VPS plans as KVM-based, with AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, and 1 Gbps networking. Those specifications do not by themselves show how a particular plan will perform for your software or traffic pattern. Confirm the resource allocation and plan details before buying, and treat the network figure as a stated network speed rather than a guarantee of application response time.
For either provider, estimate the CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth your application actually needs. A larger advertised RAM figure may matter less than storage capacity, location, backup design, or the time you can spend administering the server.

Backups and recovery: daily versus weekly
Contabo describes daily off-server Auto Backup and snapshots for Cloud VPS. Hostinger describes weekly automatic backups and manual snapshots for VPS. The stated cadence is a useful distinction, but it does not answer every recovery question: check what is included with the chosen plan, how long backups are retained, how a restore works, and whether snapshots or backups incur conditions or limits.
If losing a day of changes would be unacceptable, establish a separate backup strategy rather than assuming that a provider’s listed backup feature meets your recovery needs. A backup is useful only if you can restore the right data within an acceptable timeframe.

Administration and support are part of the comparison
A VPS gives you server-level control, but it generally involves more administration than managed hosting. Contabo describes server use and API/CLI-based management. Hostinger highlights its VPS management tools, templates, and public API. These tools can simplify deployment or routine actions; they do not make either VPS equivalent to a fully managed service.
Choose a VPS if you can take responsibility for configuring and maintaining the software environment, applying updates, securing services, and diagnosing problems—or have someone who can. If you prefer a managed control panel and more provider-managed operations, Hostinger sells a separate managed cloud hosting service with daily backups and a 99.9% uptime claim. It is a different service class from Hostinger VPS, not a direct substitute in this VPS comparison. Check its scope and terms separately.

Locations, uptime claims, and what they establish
Hostinger says its VPS data centers span North America, Europe, Asia, and South America, with location selection at deployment. For Contabo, confirm the data-center options available for the specific plan when ordering. In either case, select a location with your audience and latency needs in mind, and verify current availability before committing.
Contabo advertises 99.9% uptime for VPS. Hostinger’s technology page describes a 99.9% uptime SLA for business websites and says eligible claims can receive a credit equal to 5% of the monthly hosting fee if filed within 30 days. The page’s business-website framing does not establish that the same SLA and remedy apply to every VPS plan. Check the current terms for the product you intend to buy. These provider statements are not comparable independent uptime measurements.
Quick Recap
How to choose between Hostinger and Contabo
- Consider Contabo if the specific plan’s advertised resource allocation, daily off-server Auto Backup, and snapshots fit your needs, and you accept its fair-use traffic qualification and the administration involved in running a VPS.
- Consider Hostinger if its stated 1 Gbps networking, deployment locations, weekly automatic backups, manual snapshots, or VPS management tools better match your priorities—and the exact plan and renewal cost work for you.
- Compare managed cloud separately if you want a managed hosting service rather than a server you administer. Hostinger’s managed cloud product is not the same offering as its VPS.
- Choose a workload and write down the CPU, RAM, storage, location, and backup requirements it needs.
- Open both providers’ current plan pages and identify plans that meet those requirements; do not compare an advertised price range with a single plan price as if they were equivalent.
- At checkout, compare currency, taxes, billing term, total upfront charge, included features, and renewal price.
- Read the applicable traffic, backup, uptime, and restore terms for the exact product and region before purchasing.
