If you want a horror game to play while waiting for Hideo Kojima’s OD, start with the Silent Hill 2 remake for its focus on guilt, grief, and psychological dread. It is a thematic recommendation, not a game Kojima has identified as one of his personal favorites. P.T. is also essential context for Kojima’s approach to fear, but it is not a straightforward current download recommendation.
What is OD about?
Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios announced OD on December 7, 2023. The announcement describes a project that explores testing a fear threshold and what it means to “OD on fear,” while blurring the boundaries between games and film. Jordan Peele is named as one of several storytellers, and Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier as lead actors. The announcement discusses collaboration with Xbox and its cloud gaming technology, but does not give a release date or explain the game’s technical design in detail. In a September 2026 update reported by GamesRadar, Kojima called OD “a completely new kind of game that tests the thresholds of fear” and said production was proceeding on schedule; the report said no release window had been disclosed. In October 2026, GamesRadar reported further remarks from Kojima that development work was continuing and that he wanted to keep quiet and release the game. Those are reported updates, not a newly announced launch date. September 2026 update; October 2026 remarks.
The Xbox connection predates the game’s reveal: in June 2022, Xbox said it had partnered with Kojima Productions on a game using cloud technology. That establishes the partnership, not the full technical details of OD. Xbox’s 2022 announcement.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Best fit: Silent Hill 2 remake
For psychological horror rather than a game specifically endorsed by Kojima, the Silent Hill 2 remake is the strongest documented match. Konami describes James Sunderland’s story in terms of guilt, grief, and existential horror, with Silent Hill serving as a symbolic setting. Its remake expands explorable areas, shifts to an over-the-shoulder view, revises combat, and adds cut-scenes. Konami’s game announcement.
The remake launched for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024. Konami later reported that it had reached one million combined physical retail and digital copies in less than a week after launch. That sales figure is a launch-period report, not a current sales total. Konami’s launch report.

- A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
- A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
- A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
- The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
- The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.
Choose it if you want a story-led experience built around psychological unease and exploration. The remake also includes combat, so it is not purely a walking-and-puzzle horror game. Its PS5 and Steam launch platforms are confirmed by Konami; check current regional listings for present availability and edition details.

P.T. is relevant because Kojima discussed it directly as an experiment in fear of the unknown. In a 2020 BAFTA interview, he called it “an experiment in producing an effect in response to” that fear, and said its particular technique was a one-off. He also said he would like to make another horror game someday. These remarks illuminate his interest in horror, but they predate OD and do not establish that the new game uses the same design. - Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.
- Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.
- The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.
- The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others - through a grotesque process called Merging - to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.
- This physical edition of Cronos: The New Dawn comes with bonus in-game content and a set of collectible stickers.
The interview does not establish that P.T. is currently available from a standard storefront. Treat it as context for Kojima’s horror work rather than a game you can assume is available to buy or download today; this recommendation does not endorse unofficial copies or unsupported preservation methods.
