Choose Hogwarts Legacy for its Wizarding World setting
Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s and is officially described as a single-player, open-world action RPG. Its official description centers on roaming Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and surrounding areas, alongside learning spells, brewing potions, growing plants and caring for magical beasts. If exploring those places is the main attraction, it is the clearest fit among these choices.
The game is single-player; do not buy it expecting co-op or multiplayer. The official site lists PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but availability can vary by region and edition. Choose The Witcher 3 for a story-driven alternative
If a story-driven fantasy RPG is your priority, consider The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. GamesRadar’s 2026 roundup describes it as story-driven and praises its side quests; that is editorial judgment, not an objective measure or a guarantee that its style will suit every player.
The publisher promotes a remastered version with visual, performance and gameplay enhancements, and says qualifying owners can upgrade for free. Eligibility depends on platform and edition, so confirm the terms for the copy you own before assuming you qualify. Check the publisher’s current Witcher 3 information for the relevant version and upgrade details.

When to consider Elden Ring or Skyrim
Elden Ring and Skyrim are established comparison options for people choosing an open-world RPG, but the available evidence does not support a reliable feature-by-feature comparison with Hogwarts Legacy or The Witcher 3. If either is already on your shortlist, decide based on what you want from its combat and exploration, and verify current platform and edition details from its own listing.
