Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a first watch, follow the TV seasons in release order: High School DxD, High School DxD New, High School DxD BorN, then High School DxD Hero. Watch Hero episode 0, “Holiness Behind the Gym,” immediately before episode 1. The other OVAs and short specials are optional extras you can watch after their associated season. Watch-order guide
Recommended High School DxD watch order
- High School DxD — season 1, episodes 1–12.
- Season 1 extras (optional) — watch its OVAs and short specials after the season if you want the bonus material.
- High School DxD New — season 2, episodes 1–12.
- New OVA (optional) — place it after season 2 if it is available to you.
- High School DxD BorN — season 3, episodes 1–12.
- BorN extras (optional) — these include the “Unresurrected Phoenix” OVA and short specials.
- High School DxD Hero episode 0: “Holiness Behind the Gym” — watch before the numbered episodes.
- High School DxD Hero — season 4, episodes 1–12.
This is a season-adjacent arrangement for the bonus material, not a claim that every short has been placed at its exact in-story point. If a streaming service does not include an OVA or special, you can still follow the main television story. Watch-order guide

How to handle the BorN-to-Hero transition
BorN and Hero do not connect as a simple continuation of the same ending. A recent watch-order guide describes BorN’s final three episodes as an anime-original arc, while Hero returns to the light-novel continuity. Episode 0 revisits earlier events and sets up the version of events that Hero continues. Continuity guide
| Approach | What to watch | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Complete broadcast run | BorN episodes 1–12, then Hero episode 0 and episodes 1–12. | First-time viewers who want to see every episode in the season as broadcast. |
| Continuity-focused run | BorN episodes 1–9, then Hero episode 0 and episodes 1–12. | Viewers who want to move from the earlier BorN episodes into Hero’s light-novel-based continuity. |
For most first-time viewers, the complete broadcast run is the straightforward choice. The episodes 1–9 option is an alternative, not a required cutoff; episode 0 provides a transition and intentionally revisits material.

Do you need to watch the OVAs and specials?
No. The OVAs and short specials are bonus side stories or character moments rather than required chapters in the main TV plot. Watch them after the season they accompany if you want them, or skip them without interrupting the central season order. Hero episode 0 is the important exception: despite its label, it belongs before the numbered Hero episodes. Watch-order guide
Season 1 is catalogued as 12 television episodes, two OVAs, and six specials in a 2023 document hosted by the New Zealand Classification Office. The specials were associated with DVD/Blu-ray volumes, while two full-length OVAs were bundled with limited-edition light-novel volumes. That mix helps explain why services may show different episode counts when they omit disc bonuses. New Zealand Classification Office-hosted season document
Where to watch and what to check
A September 2026 guide lists Crunchyroll, Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, and Apple TV Store digital purchases as access options. It says the Amazon Channel requires a separate subscription beyond standard Prime membership. These are reported options, not a guarantee that every season or bonus episode is available in your country. Check your local catalogue and the season’s episode list before choosing a service. The official Japanese High School DxD HERO Blu-ray BOX product page lists an August 30, 2023 release, 13 episodes, catalog number ZMAZ-16781, and KADOKAWA as distributor. It is specifically a HERO box, not evidence of a complete-series collection. Before buying a listing, check its region compatibility, languages and subtitles, current stock, and whether it is the box or an individual volume. Official HERO Blu-ray BOX page
