HeyPolo says parents can view a teen’s location and driving information—including speeding and phone-use alerts, crash detection, and trip insights—in a family app. The teen is meant to see the same sharing view and can pause sharing, according to the company. These tools offer visibility, not a guarantee of safe driving or proof that the app prevents crashes.
What HeyPolo shows about a teen’s driving
HeyPolo combines family location sharing with features it describes as designed for teen drivers. Its official website and teen-driver page list:
- Location sharing and arrival alerts: Parents can see a family member’s reported location and receive an alert when the teen arrives.
- Speed monitoring: The company says the app can provide information about speeding.
- Phone-use information: HeyPolo says it can surface phone use or distracted driving during trips.
- Crash detection: The company lists crash detection as a feature; the reviewed material does not establish its detection accuracy or response in a particular incident.
- Driving score and trip insights: The app presents a score and information about trips, but HeyPolo’s reviewed materials do not explain the score’s algorithm, validation, sensitivity, or false-positive rate.
A score is an app-generated feature, not an independently validated measure of whether a teen is driving safely. Treat it as a possible prompt for discussion, not a definitive verdict on a driver.
How the sharing and consent model is meant to work
HeyPolo says teens can see the same sharing view as their parents and can visibly pause location sharing. Its teen-driver page says, “You see the same screen your parent sees, always,” and frames speed awareness as a conversation starter rather than a report card. These are the company’s descriptions of its product and intended approach; families should confirm what the current app shows and how pausing works on their devices.

For parents asking how to monitor driving without secretly tracking a teen, the clearest safeguard is an explicit family agreement before setup. Discuss what will be shared, when location sharing may be paused, which alerts will prompt a conversation, and who can see trip information. Older NHTSA research on teen-driver technology found that some teen participants did not favor vehicle-location notifications, while parents wanted to protect teens without spying on them. That research provides context for a transparent agreement; it does not show that HeyPolo changes driving behavior.
Phones, platforms, and setup expectations
HeyPolo describes itself as a phone-based service that works across iPhone and Android. The company says families do not need a separate GPS device; Apple’s App Store listing also describes mixed iOS/Android family groups. See the company’s parents-and-teens page and the Apple App Store listing for its platform descriptions. Check current device and operating-system requirements in the relevant app store before setting up a family group.

It may suit families who want phone-based location sharing, arrival alerts, and driving-related information in one app, provided both parent and teen agree on how the visibility will be used. Decide together whether the alerts and trip insights will support specific conversations rather than automatic punishment. If you compare it with another family safety app, check whether sharing is visible and pausable, what location and driving details are exposed, which alerts are available, whether iPhone and Android can join the same group, how long records are retained, and the full recurring cost.
