For a 32- or 43-inch TV, Full HD gives you more pixels than HD, but the best choice depends on the exact panel resolution and how far you sit from the screen. Check the manufacturer’s specification for the model you are considering: “HD Ready” does not always mean a native resolution of exactly 1280×720.
What do HD Ready and Full HD mean?
LG lists HD as 1280×720 pixels and Full HD as 1920×1080 pixels. Full HD therefore has more pixels to render image detail. These figures describe resolution, not the TV’s overall picture quality. LG treats resolution and panel technology as separate specifications, so a resolution label alone does not tell you how the complete picture will look.
Also check the model’s native panel resolution rather than relying only on “HD Ready.” Philips’ 32-inch HD Ready professional TV product sheet, issued March 24, 2024, lists a native resolution of 1366×768 pixels—not 1280×720. That is a model-specific example, not a replacement definition for HD Ready.

Which resolution makes sense at 32 inches?
Compare the actual native resolutions of the 32-inch models you are considering, then factor in your seating distance. If two otherwise suitable models differ in resolution, Full HD offers the higher pixel count; whether that extra detail is noticeable to you depends on your setup. The available manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal distance at which every viewer will see a difference.
For context, Xiaomi recommends a sofa-to-TV distance of 1.2–1.6 metres for its 32-inch HD example. Treat that as Xiaomi’s viewing guidance, not a scientific visibility threshold or a rule that applies to every TV and viewer. Xiaomi’s recommended viewing distances.

Which resolution makes sense at 43 inches?
Use the same model-level comparison for a 43-inch TV: verify the native panel resolution, consider how far away you will sit, and compare the rest of the specifications that matter to you. A Full HD label identifies a higher resolution than HD as defined by LG, but it does not by itself establish that a particular model will have better overall picture quality.

How to compare two TV listings
- Find the native resolution. Look in the exact model’s manufacturer specification sheet or support page. Do not infer it from screen size or the words “HD Ready.”
- Match the screen to your seating distance. Measure roughly how far you sit from the TV and use viewing-distance recommendations as guidance rather than a guarantee about what you will perceive.
- Compare the rest of the model specifications. Resolution is only one part of the picture; panel technology is a separate specification, as LG notes.
- Check the current listing for the exact model. Confirm that the retailer’s model number matches the manufacturer specification before relying on the listed resolution.
There is no single distance or screen-size rule established here that makes Full HD visibly preferable for every viewer. The useful decision is between the verified specifications of the actual TVs and the way you will use them.
