H. Moser & Cie.’s Off-Grid is a limited-edition digital watch that puts an analogue fumé dial above a compact screen and focuses on timekeeping rather than apps, notifications, or health tracking. The maker calls it neither a mechanical watch nor a smartwatch. That restrained brief may appeal if you want a distinctive luxury watch with useful travel and timing functions, but its high price and deliberately narrow feature set make it a poor substitute for a conventional smartwatch.
What kind of watch is the Off-Grid?
The Off-Grid sits between traditional horology and consumer smartwatches, but it is best understood as a purpose-limited digital watch. H. Moser & Cie. describes the product as neither a mechanical watch nor a smartwatch. Its design borrows from the brand’s watchmaking vocabulary, while a lower digital display supplies functions that a conventional analogue watch cannot.
The maker’s pitch is explicitly anti-distraction: it says there is “no avalanche of notifications” and “no obsession with data.” That is brand positioning, not an independent assessment of how the watch feels to use. How is it designed and built?
The digital display is set into a skeletonised dial, with a small domed fumé dial above it. That layering gives the watch an analogue focal point while keeping the digital functions visible below. The Off-Grid has a 42.6 mm steel-and-composite case, 12 ATM water resistance and an integrated rubber strap, according to the maker. Its D10 calibre was developed with SEQUENT.

Price, edition size and availability
H. Moser & Cie.’s 2026 product page lists the Black model at CHF 3,900 excluding VAT and says each model is limited to 1,000 pieces. WatchTime reports a $4,900 price, which may reflect a different market or pricing presentation; these figures are not directly interchangeable, and regional taxes or pricing may differ.

The maker’s published sales plan says sales through its boutiques and website were to begin with current clients from September 21–23, 2026, widen to the Moser community from September 24, and run only until October 5, 2026. However, the official homepage currently labels the Off-Grid “sold out for now” and offers a waiting-list option. Because the product-page schedule and homepage status differ, check the official H. Moser & Cie. homepage for current availability rather than assuming the watch can still be ordered.

The Off-Grid makes the most sense for someone who values Moser’s design language and wants a limited-function digital watch for time zones, timing and basic daily utilities. It is less suited to someone seeking the breadth of a typical smartwatch, especially apps, notifications or data tracking. The available specifications also do not establish hands-on comfort, real-world accuracy, ease of use or long-term reserve, so those qualities cannot be assessed from the published claims alone.

At CHF 3,900 excluding VAT for the Black version on the maker’s 2026 page, the purchase is primarily a decision about design and a deliberately narrow feature set—not a way to maximize smart features per franc. Buyers should verify both local pricing and availability with H. Moser & Cie. before making plans.
