Rockstar’s official descriptions confirm a different story setup for Grand Theft Auto VI: Jason and Lucia are drawn into a criminal conspiracy spanning the state of Leonida. GTA V, by contrast, follows three protagonists whose story centers on dangerous heists around Los Santos and Blaine County. Rockstar has also published an extended look it describes as in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5, but that does not confirm every gameplay system or the final game’s performance.
How GTA 6 differs from GTA 5
The clearest confirmed differences are the number and roles of the protagonists, the broad story premise, and the setting named in Rockstar’s official descriptions. Those descriptions do not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison of gameplay.

What’s confirmed about GTA 6 gameplay?
Rockstar’s page for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, dated August 27, 2026, says the presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That establishes how Rockstar describes the footage’s source; it is not a checklist of gameplay features or a guarantee of final performance.
The official material cited here does not specify mission structure, whether players can switch between Jason and Lucia, combat systems, or how the world simulation works. The confirmed premise supports describing the game as a story about the pair and their involvement in a statewide conspiracy, but it does not establish those individual mechanics.

Where is GTA 6 set?
Rockstar’s official premise places the conspiracy across the state of Leonida. The official GTA V store description refers to Los Santos and Blaine County. These are the broad setting names established by the cited pages; they do not provide a complete map comparison, so they should not be treated as a confirmed measure of either game’s map size or playable area.
Will GTA 6 have multiple protagonists?
Yes, in the broad sense confirmed by Rockstar’s premise: Jason and Lucia are the two named central characters. Rockstar says they rely on one another as the failed score leads into a conspiracy. The available official descriptions do not say whether players can freely switch between them or explain how control is divided during missions.

Confirmed GTA 6 platforms and physical version
As listed by Rockstar Support on August 18, 2026, GTA VI is planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Standard and Ultimate editions.
