Rockstar’s official materials reviewed as of October 7, 2026 describe Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience and do not confirm a separate online mode, cross-play, or how friends could join each other. The game is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA 6
Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement calls GTA VI “a single player experience” and gives a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The date is still in the future as of October 7, 2026.
Rockstar’s pre-order announcement and official game page identify those two console platforms. The reviewed sources do not describe a friend-session feature or confirm that players on different platforms can play together.
Is a separate GTA 6 Online mode confirmed?
No separate GTA 6 Online mode is confirmed in the Rockstar announcements and support information reviewed as of October 7, 2026. That means there is not enough official information to say that an online mode will launch, or that it will be included with the game. It also does not establish that Rockstar will never announce one.
#1 Best Overall
Do not treat GTA Online features as a guide to GTA VI. Rockstar has not confirmed a GTA VI online launch date, player limit, matchmaking approach, progression system, online requirements, or whether friends will be able to invite one another.
Can friends on PS5 and Xbox play together?
Rockstar lists GTA VI for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the reviewed official materials do not confirm cross-play. Having the game available on both consoles is not evidence that players on one can join players on the other. Choose a platform based on your own console ecosystem and wait for an official cross-play announcement before planning on a shared session.

What to know before buying
If you buy the physical-format version, expect a digital download: Rockstar Support says the package contains a download code and no disc. Its platforms, editions, and versions support page, last updated August 18, 2026, describes the physical version this way.
Buy GTA VI for its confirmed product and platform details, not on the assumption that it unlocks online play with friends. Rockstar’s reviewed materials establish a single-player experience scheduled for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; friend-play features remain unconfirmed.
