GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. Rockstar’s product page says “Plays Best On” PS5, but that is the publisher’s positioning—not a published head-to-head test. The official details reviewed do not establish which console has better frame rates, resolution, image quality, or load times. For most buyers, the practical choice is the console they already own, followed by controller preference, edition value, and whether a boxed download code works for them.
What is confirmed about GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox?
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. Xbox also lists the game for Series X|S. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page and its Xbox listing are the relevant platform pages.
Rockstar describes GTA VI as “a single player experience” in its June 24, 2026 preorder announcement. That announcement does not confirm a multiplayer mode.
Does GTA 6 run better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?
There is no supported performance winner to name from the official information reviewed. Rockstar’s “Plays Best On” PS5 label is worth noting, but it is not a published comparison with Xbox Series X|S. The reviewed sources provide no comparative measurements for resolution, frame rate, image quality, or loading time.

What PS5-specific features are listed?
PlayStation’s US product page describes support for DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and fast loading using the PS5’s high-speed SSD. The page also identifies GTA VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but does not provide a side-by-side benchmark for PS5 Pro, base PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Which platform should you choose?
- You already own one of the consoles: Starting with your current PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is the simplest choice. The confirmed platform list does not make buying another console necessary.
- You prefer a particular controller or ecosystem: Let that preference guide you. PS5 has the specific DualSense and audio features described by PlayStation; the reviewed sources do not establish an equivalent feature-by-feature Xbox comparison.
- You are deciding based on performance: No official comparative figures establish a winner. Avoid relying on unverified claims about frame rate, resolution, or loading.
- You are deciding based on extras or cost: Compare the live store listing for your region, including edition contents, upgrade terms, and any current offer.
How do the editions and physical format compare?
Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions, as well as a separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Standard includes the game; Ultimate includes additional items. The complete inclusion list can vary by listing, so check the live store page for your region before paying for an edition or upgrade. “Physical” does not mean a disc in this case: Rockstar says the boxed physical version contains a download code. Buy it only if a code suits you, and check that the platform and account region are compatible. Rockstar recommends purchasing from a retailer in the country of your platform account to avoid activation problems. Its support article says PlayStation codes have region restrictions, while Xbox codes are not region-locked.
What prices and preorder offers were listed?
When accessed in 2026, the US PlayStation store page displayed $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. Those are regional storefront prices at that time, not guaranteed prices in other regions or on other stores; check the current PlayStation listing and the relevant Xbox store listing before buying.

Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 announcement described a one-month GTA+ subscription with digital preorders, subject to the offer’s terms, and a Vintage Vice City Pack for preorders and purchases before November 20. These are time-limited promotions, not permanent edition features. Confirm availability, eligibility, and any subscription renewal terms in the store before completing a preorder.

- Confirm your console: The announced versions are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Make sure the listing matches the console you own.
- Choose your edition: Compare Standard, Ultimate, and the separate Ultimate upgrade using the current regional store description.
- Check the format: A physical box contains a download code, not a disc. Verify platform compatibility and account-region restrictions before redeeming or buying a code.
- Review the total cost and terms: Prices and preorder promotions can change by region and over time. Check whether an offer is digital-only and whether a subscription renews.
- Separate claims from measurements: Rockstar’s PS5 “Plays Best On” wording and PlayStation’s feature descriptions are not head-to-head performance results.
